OT: Let's check in on the 49ers

Submitted by Yostbound and Down on

Patrick Willis and Justin Smith are both expected to announce retirement today. Frank Gore will be leaving to sign with the Eagles. Rumors that they are trying to trade Kaepernick.

Man those guys really hated playing for Harbaugh, huh? Really lost the locker room.

Jed York, please keep it up. I am entertained.

because every star on that team publicly expressed regret that he was getting that raw deal which totally was the best thing that could happen for us. After his last presser there are pics of him giving personal goodbyes and more than a few guys had watery eyes or a "this is SO f'd up" look in their eyes. I don't know how the "he lost the locker room" story retains water to this day or even began. It's almost so crazy & stupid that you have to wonder if ALL of the bad luck, bounces, calls, etc since Bo died collectively made this happen. I'm not even kidding that much ha.

should have added the bad things helping us in a karmic sense. Like things have been SO shit since the literal day Bo died that the negativity had to have an equal positivity that got all at once for us. I say that because what York did & was allowed to do is.....I can't explain it. Coach is in the NFL if not for that moron - period. If that planet sized earned positive karma ball happened to smash into York to cause him to literally dump Jim Harbaugh (the only way he'd have come any time soon, let's be honest) I'll take it but it's astonishingly amazing & insane. Equally lol.

Mayhew is doing a fine job...just because they squandered their chance to lock Suh up isn't a death blow, it may in fact be life saving, as they can fill in more holes with that cap amount and get past middle of the row and start moving to consistent winner.

Awesome job by Mayhew and Lewand, we still have $9.7 million of Suh's money hitting our cap next year even though he wont be here and what a heck of a job they have done drafting players who were not the first 2 picks overall.  They continue the trend of having won only 1 playoff game in the modern era.  Go Lions!

All GM's have bad moments when highlighted in a vacuum look bad...But you are overlooking some of the day 2/3 players that were drafted that became starters, the run on quality FA's that outplayed their contract, the flexibility they managed when saddled with 3 top 5 players from old draft salary structure, and citing dead money ignores the amount of cap space still left.

I'm not calling Detroit's front office the best, but to criticize them with a few minor failures without looking at the entirety of their work is pretty callous.

31 teams in this league fail every year, until we aren't one of those you have to look for improvement and growth. I'll take what Detroit has in front of them the next 3 years, and that credit needs to rest on the Front office.

You are right!  Glad to see that Maddogrdt is not letting facts get in the way of his impassioned arguement for love and hope for Mayhew, Lewand, and the Fords.  Also, there is another $7 million of more dead cap money for next year as the Lions lead the league in this category.  I want the Lions to win as much as anyone, but the years of gross mismanagement and ineptitude can't hide the facts.  Seriously, go look at the drafts post Millen and you will be stunned.  Prime example, last draft with Suh not signing a contract yet and being COMPLETELY evasive, and Fairley not being offered an extension, what do they do with their 1st pick - Eric Ebron - how did that work out for us!  Why not pick Aaron Donald as a hedge in case 1 or both don't sign?  He became a Pro Bowler and Defensive Rookie of the Year.

on the edge of the internet. That Chip Kelly's recent trades and non-signings and modest Sanchez contract were to position themselves to make a deal for Kaepernick, a swerve to what most people were thinking which was to mortgage the house to get Mariota. I wait to see what happens.

Like they forgot the last 4 years and are trying to blow up a failed team- instead of build around their core that was a SB contender...

Reminds me of the bulls GM who thought he could assemble a better team by eliminating the current one with 3 HoF's on it...that turned out...badly

If the sole purpose if your e-existence is to bitch about RichRod's coaching job SEVEN YEARS AGO, why don't you do us all a solid and go find a nice Arizona blog?

Let it go, man. Just let it go.

Harbaugh brought such a positive change so quickly to the 49ers and it has turned to hot garbage almost instantly after his departure.

I love the bashing of Jed York. It just astonishes me how someone can blow up a successful team as quickly as York has. I'm sure at least one of Willis/Smith would have come back if they were happy with management. But at least their loss is our HARBAUGH!!!

Trying to think of a worse offseason for any franchise and it’s pretty tough to think of one. Who’s got it better than the 49ers? About 29 other teams

Harbaugh looks like the smartest guy in the room by jumping ship.

Who had a worse off-season - I can think of at least one Offensive Coordinator losing, GM texting sideline draft pick punished, QB of future in rehab, Josh McCowen signing, logo-changing (or not logo changing - you be the judge) 30% ticket price raising, all free agent losing team here in Northern Ohio who'd like to say hello.
