OT: JJ Watt released from Texans
Not Michigan related but pretty major NFL news. Texans are trying to stake their claim as the worst organization in the NFL
February 12th, 2021 at 10:00 AM ^
"....worst organization in the NFL", hmmm, the lie-downs have a SOLID 63 year track record that will not be easy to beat!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:05 AM ^
Hey, at least the Lions parted ways with the face of their franchise in a good manner this time around. The Texans seem to be actively trying to piss off their best players and trade others for as little draft capital as possible. Little victories!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:13 AM ^
Barry and Calvin say Hi! But, the lie-downs may actually not fuck up 2021.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
Like I said, THIS TIME around. They're learning?!

Why bring up Johnson and Sanders when I said this time around in the first place?
This is stupid.
February 12th, 2021 at 12:14 PM ^
Forgive me Einstein! But then again you felt the need to comment.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:31 AM ^
On the contrary, they gave him what he asked for, at their detriment. They could have at least gotten some draft capital. How could this piss him off?
February 12th, 2021 at 10:35 AM ^
I just meant in general. Their handling of Watson pissed Watt off too. He's been their franchise for the last decade and they've spent it making boneheaded decisions year after year.
Draft Hopkins, Watson, and get some good defensive talent. Then hire Bill O'Brien. Give him the keys to the franchise and watch him trade all his 1st round picks for years to get an ok LT and give up their franchise WR for an injured David Johnson no one wanted. Etc, etc.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
It's amazing how fast O'Brien fell from grace. He really just lost his mind.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
He always had some screws loose. He was the OC that Brady got into a yelling match with on the sideline years ago. Not terribly uncommon for players and coaches to chirp at one another, but I don't think Brady ever did that that with Weis or McDaniels.
BOB got credit for not letting PSU completely collapse, but he's always been a bit of an asshole that thought highly of himself.
February 12th, 2021 at 12:31 PM ^
That would be the "chaplain" they got from the Pats. Hoo boy!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:19 AM ^
The Fords took ownership of the Lions on November 22, 1963 (not kidding), which means that Kennedy's assassination was the second-worst tragedy to occur on that date.
February 12th, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
A comedy quibble: the guy's doing the bit wrong.
His mouth changes when he STARTS to move his hand down but BEFORE it covers the mouth. Though it seems a small thing, it's major because it wrecks the effect of the bit. Like doing a double-take slowly, or a kick in the butt that hits the thigh.
February 12th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Too soon.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:00 AM ^
They win.
February 12th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
JJ Watt is a class act. I hope he lands on a team where he can play in a Super Bowl. Which probably means wherever Tom Brady is QB.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:01 AM ^
They lost Deandre Hopkins, JJ Watt, and likely Deshaun Watson in the span of two years.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:13 AM ^
When put like that. ?
February 12th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
you gotta work to screw up; that badly.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:34 AM ^
Watson is a crybaby.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:02 AM ^
Shouldn’t have booed him on draft night. Still stings!!!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
Not 100% sure what his contract is but getting it off the books to rebuild is a smart move by the organization. You gain nothing by keeping jj watts corpse around.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:36 AM ^
You don't necessarily get contracts off of the books by cutting people. They may still have cap ramifications.
February 12th, 2021 at 11:58 AM ^
They gain 17.5M in cap space by cutting him.
February 12th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
They don't. $0 in dead cap next year.
8.5.7February 12th, 2021 at 10:07 AM ^
Now he has more time to film Subway commercials. Smart move.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:15 AM ^
I read that he’s owed 17.5 on a non-guaranteed for this upcoming year. I would think that he would have still been worth a 4th or 5th rounder?
February 12th, 2021 at 11:59 AM ^
Yeah, but if they traded him on that deal, they get stuck with that number as dead cap money. This is a better move.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
Come home to Green Bay, JJ!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
This is a strong possibility
February 12th, 2021 at 10:23 AM ^
Vansumerens are both going to Arizona... you heard it here first
February 12th, 2021 at 10:23 AM ^
Wonder how long before the "he wants to go to Tampa to play with Brady" comments will start. Needs to get the ring!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
well, mrs. brady, perhaps you or your hubby could reach out to JJ to extend the invitation.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:26 AM ^
Worst organization?
Lions be like, “Hold my beer!”
February 12th, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
Why not trade him?
February 12th, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
Has it even been confirmed that Texans released him? Watt only says he asked and that they agreed to part ways. I think it’s more likely he is being shopped now.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
Seen this reported by Ian Rappaport:
The #Texans could have traded JJ Watt and received a solid draft pick. They decided to do it this way, handling their face of the franchise with class.
my note: saves them $17 million in cap too, but who’s going to want to go there now?
February 12th, 2021 at 10:30 AM ^
Here we go, Steelers, here we go!
February 12th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
That was my first guess. Go play with little brother
February 12th, 2021 at 12:03 PM ^
*Both* little brothers
February 12th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
Steelers have BIG salary cap problems. Would have to be on the cheap to play with little bro.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:56 AM ^
That's what the sports columnists in Pittsburgh are saying, but with more hopefulness in their inflection.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
After all the injuries is he still the player he was 5 years ago?
February 12th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
The Texans organization has truly been a case-study in mismanagement. They had a franchise QB and a franchise WR to build around and were a playoff level team. Then they traded the WR, basically let the organization be run by some kooky life coach (and I think they added another yesterday?) and now everyone wants out.
February 12th, 2021 at 12:03 PM ^
We'll, when you pair Tommy Boy with Jim Jones, this is what you get.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
He'll go to KC, Tampa or Green Bay.
February 12th, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
i would add the Steelers too because of TJ
