[OT] Jason Moore (4*, #5 DL, #53 overall) commits to Ohio State over Notre Dame and Michigan

Submitted by BoFlex on July 11th, 2022 at 11:52 AM

As title implies, 4-start DL Jason Moore from Maryland announced his commitment to Ohio State yesterday. Unclear where exactly Michigan stood in his recruitment, but recruitniks indicated that Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan were likely his top-3 with Maryland being in the mix too. Up until very recently, all signs were pointing to Notre Dame.

Post this on 11 warriors - We don’t care about osu’s class. This is a blog for fans of the B1G champion Michigan wolverines, not the team always trying to catch up with the winningest

No kidding. If we posted commitments for every guy with Michigan "in the final list" the board would get really cluttered.

OP, I'm going to be nice and assume that you're not doing some stealthy concern-trolling.

EDIT: OP's posting history makes concern trolling more likely than I'd realized. He's subtle, though, so congrats to him.

Hmm...OK. That makes sense to me. We shouldn't count games played before Ohio State had a program.

So that means 1879-1889 are out the door....where we went a combined 19-9.

And if that's true and my calculations are correct, that means our overall win percentage is 73.6%, which is .5% ahead of Ohio State.

So yeah, by your own logic, we're the winningest program.

Mostly posted because it seemed in-line with the Dante Moore post earlier this week. I didn't expect this much negativity.

I only casually follow recruiting, and saw other college football blogs/forums and reporters mentioned that Jason Moore had Michigan relatively high on his final list, and figured it was worth an offseason/OT discussion. FWIW, I pretty sure 247sports had Michigan as "warm" up until his commitment.

It's negativity from the group of fanbase who have their heads in the sand and pretend everything is going well with Michigan and recruiting.  Michigan picked up a couple of nice pieces last week and a couple the week before, but they have lost every elite talent to another school that in previous years they would have nabbed some of.

This board has talked about the issues to death and back to life, but no one really knows exactly what the problems are.  It could be any of NIL, Harbaugh looking at the NFL a few months ago, losing both cordinators or lack of prioritizing recruiting elite players compared to other programs, but it could be all of them combined as well.

I don't think losing both coordinators should hurt that much because other programs are doing just fine with new coordinators (ND, Clemson, LSU, Miami), so maybe the other 3 issues combined are the cause of a weak commitment class in quantity and quality upto this point?!

So, Michigan is the only program that can develop players?  OSU cannot develop their 4* and 5* players?  Harbaugh is a good developer of 3* players into 3* and 4* college talent, but Ryan Day's boat load of talent he picks up are also developed.  In the end, elite talent help win, or compete for championships more often than 3* talent.

Michigan still has enough talent to go into Comumbus and "stomp" their asses this year.  However; if you look at Michigan's overall team talent it has dropped, and if recruiting continues to struggle the way it is, then that talent level will continue to drop.

Harbaugh is a smart guy, so he may very well adapt to recruiting better in the years to come, but he needs to recruit less like a combination of Virginia and South Carolina and more like the USCs.  Every year Harbaugh should put every effort in recruiting elite talent at each position, and if he strikes out on many of them, then so be it and move onto the second option.  How many sleepers and fast-risers does Alabama, LSU, OSU, Clemson, Georgia and the other big-boys put so much effort into recruiting?

Well, OSU obviously didn't know how to develop talent last year. Their classes have been stocked with more 5* and 4* than UM. Yet, they didn't plan for a 3* running through their 5* recruit's.

Talent drop is based on rankings from your point of view. This is July. Come back in December and worry about recruits. You have small sample size, but significant. It does not mean it is freak out time. Harbaugh may get enough talent by December, just like last year. Even if he doesn't, have faith. Freaking out about 3 years from now is absurd. Mildly concerned. Sure. Not to the level you are describing.

I comment on things negative and positive. I gave the coaches credit when they won the Big Ten and said that they needed to recruit way better when they got destroyed by Georgia. I don't blow smoke and say that every player we get is J.J. Watt when that is obviously not the case. Some people don't like that. That's ok that we have different opinions. Our recruiting class is too weak to do anything meaningful in the future. Got to get guys like this or Dante Moore or Carr to get to where we got in 2021 and to win the playoff. If we land a top 5 class, I'll be the first one on here praising the coaches. When they do something good, great! When they aren't performing up to our standards then I will call it out.

We aren’t being “out-recruited” by ANY of the schools you mentioned. They’re ahead of us currently because they have more commits, not better commits. Ffs, we have more 4* commits than all three of them combined.

Your negativity is getting old. You’re a concern troll and not even a very good one at that.

All of your posts are getting negged because people cant handle the truth.

People are so naive. Trust in Harbaugh...trust in the process. LOL.

None of our current commitments right now were at the top of their internal recruiting boards. We just haven't secured top talent.

We slow played Amir Herring, because he honestly isn't that great of a player. But look...the staff had to renew interest because they whiffed on everyone else.

No he’s getting negged because he’s saying dumb shit like “we’re being out recruited by Kansas State, Maryland, and Illinois” when our average recruit ranking is 2 whole points or higher than all three of those schools, and that’s including us having the #1 ranked kicker in the country dragging our average down.

He’s getting negged for whining about recruiting in freakin July. Go ahead and look at how many of our commits last year came after today’s date. Freakin relax. Everything will work out just fine in the end.

Since you know so much...

How many of the top 100 recruits in the country are left uncommited?

Out of that many, how many are trending right now to pick Michigan?

It hasnt been THIS bad in a LOOOONG time. Think back to our 2010 7-6 year with Rich Rod when everyone knew he was dead man walking. 2011's class was pretty bad.

There is a reason we are not doing hot, and It wasnt the play on the field. But if we keep recruiting like this, we wont be anywhere close to another Big Ten Championship for awhile.

The offense is stacked for the next couple of years with elite talent at the skill positions. We should be looking at 9-3 at the absolute worst case scenario this year with a legit shot at 11-1 or 12-0. Recruiting will pick up. Even if recruiting isn’t great, one bad year won’t decimate the program. Back to back Big Titles and I’m confident they will recruit better in 2024. Starting with Jadyn Davis. Land him, other elite players will follow. Miss and I think Harbaugh and others will realize we need to start paying to get recruits. Harbaugh is competitive and there’s no way he will let the program sink into obscurity. I promise we will be fine. Enjoy the upcoming season. It’s going to be a fun ride.

We heard that it was going to be doom and gloom last year because of how bad the classes around 2018-2019 were. Then that didn’t happen and concern trolls actually shut the fuck up for a while. It looks like we are ramping up the concern trolling right on time again this year. I look forward to you and the other trolls shutting the fuck up again this year

It’s not even worth counting. It’s freakin July. That’s what you’re not getting. Kids will flip their commitments. Their interests will change.

Where were we on Derrick Moore’s list this time last year? Keon Sabb was committed to Clemson this time a year ago. Darius Clemons was Oregon bound in the middle of October last year. And that’s just looking at 3 of the top 5 recruits we signed.

You’re literally throwing a fit because of what 17 year old kids are feeling 5 months before it even matters. Because, as we all know, that’s a VERY consistent demographic and their minds won’t change at all.

NewBlue7977

July 11th, 2022 at 10:09 PM ^

Yeah, it is just July, but in August it will be "just August" and in September it will be "just September", etc.  When will the excuses stop?!  Arkansas, MSU, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisville and some other programs have more, or equal 4* commits to ratio of total commits than Michigan.

Michigan has some momentum the past 2 weeks receiving commits from a few very good players, but they also lost every elite recruit during that same time-span (Cayden Green, Charles Jagusah, Johntay Cook, Dante Moore and Jalen Brown) who are in the top 100.

The worry is whether or not the recruiting struggles for Michigan is going to be a normal thing for future classes, and if it is, then how will this program be able to compete with their rivals on the field, for B1G titles and for playoff spots?

This season should be a great one, and next year should as well, but what about after that?  I know many people live in the here and now, but you cannot deny that if things continue the way they have been going with recruiting that there is a lot of worry for the future of this program.

Who the F cares? It’s JULY. Calm down. Kids are going to flip left and right the rest of the year. We’ll get commits from kids we aren’t even in the running for right now. Kids leaning somewhere right now will sign somewhere else come December. Again, 3 of our top 5 commits in the 2022 class are guys nobody had us even mentioned as contenders for in July. Either off the board to another school, leaning another way or Michigan wasn’t even part of their recruitment.

Didn't see anyone bitching about the kid in particular here at all.  But if you have a beef with fans caring about the general quality of their recruits, which has clearly been proven as a metric for on-field success, perhaps you might be more comfortable rooting for Yale or Slippery Rock.

I didn't say people were bitching about the kid. They were (and are ... see ThadMattas and others) bitching all doomy and gloomy over a kid we were never really in the running for.

I root for the kids on the team. I don't root, or get bent out of shape, about what STARZZZ we have in mid-july 6 months before anyone is even signed or on campus. you want to gripe on signing day, fine (i still that's stupid as one of our worst classes in a long time was the backbone of our B1G title last year).

But if you have a beef with fans caring about the general quality of their recruits, which has clearly been proven as a metric for on-field success, perhaps you might be more comfortable rooting for Yale or Slippery Rock.

I'm perfectly comfortable rooting for michigan. their "onfield success" isn't a priority in my life to the point i'll shit on coaches and staff and be negative as hell about my favorite team on this blog.

it's just a game dude.
