OT: Jalen Rose Academy doing well
Well done Jalen. I know that former MBB player Ben Cronin is a teacher there.100% of the @JRLADetroit Class of 2016 graduates accepted into college, trade school or the military... Congrats! pic.twitter.com/jPzhD1TIm8

The graduating class
Jalen Rose has been a great ambassador for Detroit and our Univeristy of Michigan.
That is awesome, nice to see what a wonderful role model JR is and his POSITIVE effect on his community! Great post CS.

Not to be a buzzkill but more and more schools are putting out these facades of acceptance numbers with little actual relation to the amount of kids who are even arriving on campus in the fall or showing up for orientation at a trade...

Cynical, ain't ya
I teach in southwest detroit and I see schools like EMU and Wayne st. exploit our students by signing them up, enrolling them in 'summer' programs, exploiting the fuck out of them and then cutting loose when FAFSA runs out of the kids get beat down. Go look at Wayne St. african-american graduation rates...
Then I see Jalen Rose's dumb ass standing in front of the kids and it just set me off that we're all chasing grad rates in the city instead of true learning...
And I know college isn't for everyone and graduating is a big deal. So I respect that...
I just find discomfort with this growing trend of schools lieing about their students future successes... and fucking Wayne state is on my shit list something serious...
love you all!

say it loud and repeat.
I'm not to big on EMU and their summer programs either...
....but you are being a buzzkill! How do you know that they are not prepared for success at the next level?
You can say the same about many other schools around the country. The JRLA is likely no different.
Did you go to college? Did you graduate?
If yes to both did you notice how big your freshman class was in comparison to your graduating class?
Spoiler alert, everyone didn't just decide to transfer. Not sure if that bursts your bubble...but the JRLA is likely like many other public and private high schools around the country in that not all of their graduates finish college.
But would they have finished high school? That's the goal. Earning a high school dipolma and not having one offers completely different opportunities in life in most cases.
Take your negativity and shove it, it's pointless in this case. If most other HS's graduated 100% of their students and 100% of those students also graduated college...then you'd have a point. In this case, the JRLA is no different than many other places when it comes to college graduates. At least they're getting them to college...more than a lot of schools can say in 2016.

Talk about tire fires.
I've had the opportunity to visit this school on several occasions, and what Jalen is doing is so praiseworthy. He's not just writing checks and walking away. He's there all the time, directly involved in the lives of those students. There are a lot of former U-M athletes doing great things, but Jalen is at the top in my book.
I listen to Jalen's radio show everyday. A great personality and role model. He also reps UM whenever he gets a chance.
It's the best sports talk show out there.

It's a public charter school, so it's free and open to any student in the state.
But I'm assuming they also don't have to keep students if they don't fit into their academic and behavioral standards?
