If I ever get into a position where I get a ton of money, I will a great deal to this school. He has always been my favorite Michigan player and I'm proud of what he's doing!

Come back in a year and tell me 50% are still enrolled and I will be impressed...
Not to be a buzzkill but more and more schools are putting out these facades of acceptance numbers with little actual relation to the amount of kids who are even arriving on campus in the fall or showing up for orientation at a trade...

I teach in southwest detroit and I see schools like EMU and Wayne st. exploit our students by signing them up, enrolling them in 'summer' programs, exploiting the fuck out of them and then  cutting loose when FAFSA runs out of the kids get beat down.  Go look at Wayne St. african-american graduation rates...

Then I see Jalen Rose's dumb ass standing in front of the kids and it just set me off that we're all chasing grad rates in the city instead of true learning...

And I know college isn't for everyone and graduating is a big deal. So I respect that...

I just find discomfort with this growing trend of schools lieing about their students future successes... and fucking Wayne state is on my shit list something serious...

love you all!

Dumbass is a little strong and somewhat unfair. This is something he believes in and initially funded most of it on his own. There are a million other things that he could be doing with his money, but instead, he is giving back to the community which he grew up. If every millionaire in this country did the same thing that he is doing, there would be a ton less problems. How is it his fault that universities are "exploiting" these kids? I'm sure these kids are a lot better off with this school being there as opposed to it not. I'm sure you are a great teacher, but I hope you teach with a little more optimism than what you have displayed here on a great thread that should be celebrated. If not, you may be part of the problem with DPS.

You can say the same about many other schools around the country. The JRLA is likely no different.

Did you go to college? Did you graduate?

If yes to both did you notice how big your freshman class was in comparison to your graduating class?

Spoiler alert, everyone didn't just decide to transfer. Not sure if that bursts your bubble...but the JRLA is likely like many other public and private high schools around the country in that not all of their graduates finish college.

But would they have finished high school? That's the goal. Earning a high school dipolma and not having one offers completely different opportunities in life in most cases.

Take your negativity and shove it, it's pointless in this case. If most other HS's graduated 100% of their students and 100% of those students also graduated college...then you'd have a point. In this case, the JRLA is no different than many other places when it comes to college graduates. At least they're getting them to college...more than a lot of schools can say in 2016.

I've had the opportunity to visit this school on several occasions, and what Jalen is doing is so praiseworthy. He's not just writing checks and walking away. He's there all the time, directly involved in the lives of those students. There are a lot of former U-M athletes doing great things, but Jalen is at the top in my book.
