OT: Hate week distractions, holiday plans, etc

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on November 21st, 2018 at 7:42 AM

I have accomplished exactly nothing at work (or home) this week, and it's looking like that is going to continue through Saturday.

I'm in desperate need of distractions to pass the time today, so let's talk about hour holiday plans.  Maybe share some stories of drunken Thanksgiving shenanigans and jackassery?

I'll be at my in-laws this year, which means I won't have a decent meal until I hit the White Castle drive thru on the way home.

oldest daughter home from school so that's a celebration in itself.  she spoils us when she's home.

activities will include:  hunt with various kids, catch up on some farm chores, cut down a Christmas tree from the north part of the farm, a family 'turkey trot', of course food, food, food like everybody else.  and the game.

Going to Mexico on Thursday. I’m pretty nervous about getting back on Friday night. From what I’ve read, the border is absolute shit to cross right now. But I’m hoping Friday night won’t be as bad...

Yeah they temporarily closed it on Monday night to "beef up security" because they had "reports" that people from the caravan were going to "rush the border." (Whatever the fuck that means.)

But now, it's opened back up with only 15 lanes instead of 23. Last time I went it took over 5 hours to cross. But that was a Sunday night. I'm hoping that coming back on Friday Night won't be any longer...

Unfortunately, I'm not white. But luckily, I have a valid US passport and my last name is not Chavez.

Various arrivals today so we’ll have whole family here together.  Got my mission to make bourbon pecan pie today and continue thawing the bird.  Will watch The Game from comfort of our own living room while the females will likely find something else to do.

My wife's best friend is in town from out of state with both her husband, who I have never met, and their son.  I'm pretty laid back and wasn't too worried about it but the thought was in the back of my mind that he may be a dick and I have to host him for Thanksgiving week.

They get here and I find out that he is a Michigan Law grad and a big Wolverine fan.  Needless to say, we bonded.  Go blue!

This afternoon I will pick up my wife from the office and we will begin our drive to Columbus (from one gawdawful state-Kansas to another-Ohio) for Thanksgiving-with her family. My SIL teaches at Pickerington Central-they play in the semi-finals Friday night which I plan on going to see. (I do not generally give a damn about the marching band...but my nephew is in it...and apparently they are very good-they're marching in the Parade of Roses on New Years. So I will get to watch him perform too.) There's not an athletic bone in that family and they could not care less about The Game. Saturday morning we will depart from that sad excuse of a city and drive to my family in Northern Indiana...and take in the game with our gaggle of Michigan fans. Hoping for a joyful time :)

My daughter just got accepted at MSU today so we will be celebrating that. I'm not super happy about contributing to the sexual predator defense fund but happy for her. We are waiting to hear back from Michigan which will of course be the choice if she is accepted. Other than that I will watch the Lions fumble their way to a loss while I drink as much whiskey as possible.

I’m off work until Monday. Finished cleaning the yard of leaves after work yesterday then we went to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert in my company’s suite. Got family coming in today, thanksgiving tomorrow, Friday my son is getting baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints so that will be a big event and get together all day. Time will pass very quickly and before you know it, it’s 10am Saturday and I’m watching Michigan beat down OSU with my diehard fan family members visiting from out of state

Don't distract me from hating osu while my distraction of hating osu is distracting me from studying for Law Finals in two weeks!  I have big goals this week...

Just found out that my daughter has a double header scrimmage starting at 10 on Saturday. Since I get squirrely watching high stakes games, I volunteered to take her so my husband could stay home and watch. I'll listen on the radio. As for the meal, I'm making it and it has to be gluten-free since my mother-in-law has celiac disease. It's so much easier just to do no gluten at all rather than some gluten. She's one of those victim-type people who acts like you just stole all her candy when something has gluten in it.

"Does this have gluten?"

"Yes, that one does."

"Oh. Ok." Pout. Heavy sigh. Even when there's plenty of stuff that doesn't have it. And I'm a baker so this takes a lot of the fun out of it for me.

OK, I'm done complaining. Tomorrow I will be thankful.
