OT: Happy Groundhog Day

And to quote a friend of mine:  "If Puxatawney Phil sees his shadow, does that mean that the Seahawks should have run the ball?"

When Chekov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in warmth of their hearths and hearts, I can't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.

Well, as I am celebrating Groundhog's Day by being unable to safely get out of my own subdivision, the plan is to do a few hours of work from home and then continue the cleanup later. The official reading at Metro was 16.7 inches, but thanks to the wind, I had drifts on the driveway in excess of three feet - shoveled straight through from about 6:15 AM to 8:15 AM and still couldn't get the car past the entrance to the sub. If Phil comes out to volunteer his insight today, he's a better mammal than me. I am just worried about how the hell I am going to get the trash to the curb right now as tomorrow is trash day here.

Snowplow service FTW. It sucks when you have to pay for them to plow 3" of snow, but the 18" we got yesterday/today in Chicago MORE than makes up for it. It's great waking up to an completely clear driveway.

As an aside, kids are home from school, wife got stuck in the city (she works at a hospital downtown), and I'm "working" from home while kinda-sorta watching the kids (at least keeping them fed and undamaged).

This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat. What a hype. Groundhog Day used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out they used to eat it. You're hypocrites, all of you!
