OT: Great Joe Louis Arena tribute video played last night

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Great night last night on an otherwise crap day.

This was a really cool video the played on the broadcast during the closing ceremony at Joe Louis Arena.

I know I'm gonna miss the place. Tons of memories there. Wings, Michigan, WWE shows, concerts etc.

The final event ever at the arena will be a WWE house show on July 29th.

Here's some Michigan-centric stats on the arena

  • The first ever event at the Joe was Michigan Basketball playing Detroit (Michigan won 85-72)
  • Michigan Hockey had a record of 106-52-6 at the Joe, more wins than any other college team to play there
  • Michigan Hockey won 9 CCHA Tournament Championships at the Joe, 15 GLI Championships and 2 NCAA Regional Championships.

It was also great to see the players and - in some cases - the families of the players who called that place home at some point during that ceremony, and I loved the "COME HOME, STEVIE" chant going on when Yzerman spoke. We can only hope Ken Holland heard that loud and clear, right? Dreaming, I know.

It was a great tribute all around.

Crap day? The weather outside was beautiful. Maybe you should leave your parent's basement for once.

But what else crappy happened yesterday besides Ausmus/Avila stupidly waiting too long to realize that Joe Jimenez should've made the team and not Rondon?

Pistons and Wings won.  Great finish to the Masters.

it was 70 degrees, sunny, and hardly a cloud in the sky. Beers were flowing. What was so bad about yesterday other than the Earth spinning on its axis (aka the bullpen blowing up)? If you get so emotional about the bullpen, then I would invest in some anxiety meds. It will be a long season for you.

I root for many teams in different sports, but if you take a look down the list, only Michigan Football tops the Detroit Red Wings. Last night meant a lot to me, it was hard to say goodbye to such an amazing building (home of countless memories), but I was ready. The game was perfect and exactly what I wanted, and the end of the whole night brought a tear to my eye. This video was definately a part of the cause! A Farewell and Big Thanks, Joe.
