OT - Grant Desme joins the Priesthood (WTF)
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/35014970/ns/sports-baseball/
I guess it is nice that he found a higher calling, but WTF? He is one of the A's top prospects and would likely be in the majors soon. Can't he join the priesthood after he has made his millions? O.k., so I am obviously materialistic and not religious at all, but come on.

I read your post, and then I looked at your name, hilarity ensued.

He was in the A's organization and God is obviously an Angels fan. So, it makes sense when you think of it...

Not only is God an Angels fan, but he is also a Disney fan. You can also throw Tony Danza into that mix as well.

God's not a Padres fan?
January 22nd, 2010 at 4:17 PM ^
Yes. San Diego is his NL team. Everyone gets one AL and one NL team... As spoketh by God himself.

thought God was a Yankees fan? If not, how do they keep managing to spend more than the GDP for several smaller countries combined?

I am with Jesus on this one. I also hate the Yankees. I believe Jesus loves the Red Sox.

Never heard of him before, but good for him.

Why is this odd to you? As a Christian, if you feel compelled to go closer to God, it's awesome.
January 22nd, 2010 at 4:20 PM ^
only speak for myself. Not trying to knock the guy or offend anyone. As stated above. I guess I am materialistic. I could not pass up the potential payday waiting for me in the majors.

I think the OP is clear why Desme's decision is, at the least, arguably "odd". Even Reggie "The Minister" White played and made millions (while being a spirtual leader in the locker room). Guys like Kitna and Warner are huge in religion while they play... and make millions.
So, yes, Desme's choice is different (i.e. "odd") in relation to a lot of others who have played / are playing while putting their God #1, rather than not playing and putting their God #1.

be fair to Reggie, he was the "Minister of Defense". Which can mean he was either a.) a religious figure or b.) a warlord sent to snap the back of any QB within a 20 mile radius. Take your pick

the priesthood, become a priest and then return to baseball. At such time he will become the messiah of baseball. He will curse any pitcher who dares to strike him out. His bat will be called the "Hand of God". He will smite those who do not bow to his will.

Not cool

to be so touchy. It is simnply a joke. If we cannot joke about religion, than what can we joke about?
January 22nd, 2010 at 5:06 PM ^
Got any good ones that I haven't heard yet?
January 22nd, 2010 at 5:23 PM ^
You know the dentist Tim Whatley converted to Judaism simply for the jokes. And I'm not being anti-dentite here.

I'm agnostic and your unfunny joke doesn't offend me. I do, however, know many people who would be offended. Religion is a touchy subject that is better served respected rather than mocked. I would have had the same response if someone was making holocaust jokes.

I love this logic: If we cannot_________ about _______, then what can we_______about?
It's fun to use this logic to prove all sorts of things, give it try!
1) If we cannot talk about football, then what can we talk about?
2) If we cannot laugh about kidney stones, then what can we laugh about?
3)If we cannot complain about the officiating, then what can we complain about?
In all seriousness, there are many other topics that can be joked about. You should watch Comedy Central sometime, the comedians have actually found other topics to make jokes about.
By the way I'm Catholic and I'm not offended by your joke, I just don't think your logic makes any sense.

Oh come on. You know David Ortiz is thinking the same thing.

Urban Meyer had another one of his holy premonitions and that was that!
January 22nd, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
that Tebow will go to the NFL and finally Florida will have a QB that does not completely suck in the NFL. I am not even sure God can grant Meyer that wish.
