Out blazefire is deaf, so I have that going on today
Tennessee is not recruiting well just because they got 18 dudes
Out blazefire is deaf, so I have that going on today
found out I am not only one is deaf but two nope three deaf are in this mgoblog.....
So when you read my post does it sound like your voice would sound reading it in your own head ?
Learning to run codes on kids, start working Monday 5am
That's the one. NRP was earlier this week, ACLS and BLS last week. Hooray for orientation!
Costco grand opening in Ann Arbor. They don't give out free student memberships like some other warehouse stores, though. Shame.
with house/room mates. You'll make the membership back on booze easy.
You don't need a membership to buy booze or to use the food court -- it's the law. So that is good!
I think you can buy booze there (and other membership clubs) without a membership because of alcohol regulations, though I may be wrong.
Went to the preview last night. They provided everything from the food court as well as a carving station with roast beef, salmon, and pulled chicken. The food alone was worth going. Gas for $3.33 a gallon at their station didn't hurt either.
A Costco in Ann Arbor? Best thing I've heard all day.
Fuck Yes. I love Costco.
Hot in NOVA, over 100F it seems forecasted. Lots of Coke Zero, until beer in the PM. Sierra Nevada southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop Ale--Drinking Thread too early?
I am in Baltimore so I assume we are experiencing a similar climate. I just walked out of the office to get food and my pants immediately stuck to my legs. Good news: It is supposed to get much hotter throughout the day.
Compiling information on new clients and creating files for them - pretty boring stuff, but it passes the time.
Now big weekend plans. I actually have to work Saturday afternoon for a special organizational event, which should actually be a good time.
Bartending a 650 person wedding on Saturday as a favor to an in-law... outside. I am fairly certain that is a ton of brownie points..
Wow, that is a huge wedding. The biggest I have been to was about 300.
I used to bartend weddings while I was in college. It was hot enough running around inside in the air conditioning. I would definitely not want to be serving drinks outside in 95 degree heat. 650 people sounds like a fun time though.
As a favor?!?! Unless this is one of those high fashion "Please don't tip the help" type of weddings, I think bartending for 650 guests is primarily doing a favor to your wallet....
Not a 'high fashion' wedding at all. I used to run an event bartending company and before and since then I have bartended at bars at varying frequencies. I won't put out a tip jar, though, unless they specifically tell me I should. I'm looking at it as a wedding present type thing, donating a few hours of my life to help. The other people working are all relatives of the groom, so I didn't have any cost involved bringing people I knew... just myself and the standard bar implements that they aren't providing.
for a visa for Ms. Lampjaw's study abroad. A front row seat at the debt crisis for the econ public policy major. Then maybe to Greektown for a lunchtime foretaste.
Skip ahead to the 5:10 mark and you will see TH Jr. with Wale. I randomly came across this when I was watching this music video.
Must be nice kid, live it up.
Going Up North for the weekend. But in the meantime, counting down the seconds until 5 o'clock.
Taking a good chunk of next week off to simply relax. Today is a slow day at the office, so I am basically getting paid to drink Blue Powerade and watch 30 for 30 films. Making some pizzas at the brewpub tonight then destroying my stomach with some BW3 after I clock out.
Slow day here too. All I'm doing is correspondance between my travel agent for upcoming travel in July and August - 5 weeks off and on between Philly, Raleigh and Atlanta. I'm going to rack up some points with 10 flights and 25 days in hotels. My wife is getting really big being all pregnant and such. I have a no-fly for 6 weeks around her due date and I'll work from home that entire time so its not all that bad. I've already got the mgo-gear for his hello post.
reading Athlon's preview while waiting for my cars' AC to be fixed. Tomorrow I work until 3 and after that I am going to live the Peter Gibbons dream.
Prepping to head up to Montreal for ballroom dance competition this weekend. It's probably the last competition I'll get to do with my girlfriend for a while since she's headed to grad school, so I'm excited and nervous for a million different reasons. She's never been to downtown Montreal either, so I'm hoping to get to spend some time around town.
I thought that city disappeared after 2004?
Sort of. Getting in now involves a complex series of scuba dive routes, a swamp boat and two ziplines. If you ever go in the future, learn Swahili.
What exactly is a ballroom dance competition?
It's a competition that involves ballroom dancing... waltz, tango, cha cha, jive, etc. It's kind of a strange concept when you first think about it, but it's a fun way to combine art, athleticism and competition. U-M actually has a huge team that's pretty well-known in the collegiate circuit; They ahve multiple national championships. Admittedly though, the national collegiate competition is mostly attended by midwest schools.
Here are some high-level examples:
Sounds cool. I was thinking it was classier version of "you got served."
Good luck this weekend.
I've got two things to look forward to:
Honestly not a fan. Too much citrus, not enough beer. But to each their own. I'll have a Sam Summer later, which I think is a better balance. Enjoy the beach!
Today: Finishing a short memo that's morphed into a long report (overzealous appendices!) which goes out this afternoon.
Later: Going home and reading the HOV on the deck with a beer (just received it in the mail) .
Tomorrow: I'm planning to prep and then paint the basement walls with a waterproofing paint.
Also, we just found out my wife is pregnant which is slightly more than a Friday plan but I couldn't be happier.
Congrats! That is excellent news.
Congrats. My wife is about 23 weeks in.
her due date is the Bama game. I've got a big decision to make . . . .
My son was considerate and was born last year during the October Bye week. He was born on the 24th, but we were in the hospital starting Saturday night the 22nd.
TV in the delivery room (though if you thought the "you aren't listening to me" conversation was bad in the living room...).
My wife is due the day after the Ohio game. Oh, first born, PLEASE be right on time...
Of course, this may not happen in your instance, but both of my kids were scheduled C-sections, mainly because of my wife's assertion that, being 5'-1", there is "nothing like that happening down there" (edited for content).
Anyway, we were fortunate enough that both kids were born during the summer, so there wasn't this sort of conflict, but if it should come up, definitely push for a Sunday or early in the week surgery during the season.
My wife is due 2 days before Purdue. Scheduled C-Section so I'll be home just in time.
That is tough. But just in case, DVR the game since you don't want to add on to the pissed-off-ness that she will already be experiencing. Plus, having a tv in the room will help.
Its actually an easy decision. I am, after all, a family kind of guy. The birth of my second child takes precedence over everything, as it should.
For those of you who had any rush jobs with us, please note that the first two weeks in July are when 80% of the company decides to take their vacation, so we will do our best to accommodate everybody.
Seriously though, hopefully everyone is staying out the heat if possible - we had about 16,000 out at one point last night because of heat-related failures, and it may not be much better today. Beyond that, I've started running the month-end reports early because, at this point in the day, everything that will come in has come in.
My wife is working on the 4th, so there are no real plans, and actually, as historic luck goes here, I may very be too - we joke about the "4th Of July Storm" here every year, but I have worked the past two July 4th holidays because of storm, so it's utility gallows humor in a way.
Some summary MGoStats for the top 300 MGoBloggers by point totals:
A total of 1,997 points were generated by this group, with the average user generating 11 points. 122 users in this group did not post, and another generated between 1 and 9 points. The median was 5 points, and the standard deviation was 20 points. The variance of totals fell from 862 to 399 over the week.
It should be noted that diary entries and front page content do play a role. For example, all of Brian's points come from his eight front page entries (and Ace would likely be here too if not for his vacation). Further, if you're in this group, you'll be proud to know that if you generated 6 points or more, you are in the first quartile of posters.
Damn. I really have to step up my game.
Like I always told my mom, there are at least four people in this world who are bigger losers than I am.
My parents always told me that I would be successful one of these days, and I am starting to fear that tracking these statistics also means I am tracking the delay of this date that they kept mentioning.
You yell that to her, or did you have to go all the way up the stairs to tell her /zing
Let's get off moms. I just got off yours.
Not on the list. Come on rolldamntide, get it together...I mean....MICHFAN....MICHFAN IS ME
What if we are all merely subaccounts in the "RollDamnTide" server, which is part of the "WolverineInABag" network of sports blogs?
WHO TOLD YOU ABOU.....I mean....Lulz wut
My MGoEgo just became a little bit bigger.
Considering how many days he was off this week. What did we learn from this? Being pissed off about a Thursday night kick off gets you points.
You wanted that upgrade to a silver medal this week, eh? Next week, what I will do is create a new tab for the non-staff users and then add ten to everyone's total. If it worked for Aurthur Andersen, it can work for MGoBlog....right?
I can take Brian. He's just lucky it's not bowl season.
Cramming for BEC of the CPA exam. I take it Tuesday, so wish me luck.
I know as soon as I am done im stopping at a local establishment for a pint...
Good luck! I started studying recently and it is truly a grind.
Hang in there, let me reassure you that upon completion of the CPA exam, colors are brighter, jokes are funnier, and life is more enjoyable. In the great words of Michael Bluth, "Head down, power through". I finished them up less than a year ago.
Til i'm done..then going with kids to The World Famous San Diego Zoo...they've been there all week at camp and can't get enough.
I'm SO JEALOUS! I wanna gooooo!
I miss you!
I catch your tweets sometimes! Catch u soon!
Looking forward to working out after work considering I agreed to be a wedding date for a girl I have a strong likelihood of sleeping with in two months. Gonna have to P60X this.
Getting ready for shutdown week around here, which is next week. Had the choice of not working at all during shutdown week or going to some random training and community service stuff in order to keep getting paid. I like my paychex, especially when I can get them for not really doing much actual work.
vacation all next week for me... whoooooooo!!!!!
I think I figured out my life plan this week--I'm all set to transfer into a different Master's program so there's that. I'm excited for Ann Arbor adventures tomorrow--it's been far too long!
Need more nurse and PA's.
Wife in South Bend and I close on our house on Monday, which sets off Epic Renovation Week of Epicness. Today involves a trip to Home Depot and a prayer to the God of Thinset and Spackle.
It will get to a point where the conversation is something like this:
"Here is your debt-to-income ratio...."
"Here is the amortization of estimated payments...."
"Here are the entrails of a hedgehog..."
"Where do I initial?"
Seriously though, good luck on all this. As for renovations, I am sure the MGoCommunity is a wealth of information on this as well.
We got the seller to cover the entrails.
Just found out that I'm not on call this weekend when I thought I was, so now the plan is to stay cool with the wife and boy without my pager... including bowling and probably the pool. I should probably cut the grass cine it's been about a month, but it doesn't grow much when it's consistently hot as butt outside.
Going to Ann Arbor for the weekend, possibly going to Cedar Point. It's going to be a good weekend. Then I'll be working Monday and Tuesday, and then going up north for a Fourth of July short week/long weekend. It should be a good time.
I wish I was going up north as usual around the 4th, but I am coverage this year - apparently, somebody actually neeed to at least pretend to manage things during a week when everyone else will be gone basically.
If you're near Atlanta, MI, my parents actually help run the festivities at Canada Creek Ranch, which is about 11 miles north of town. They put on a decent show for a private ranch actually. I am pretty sure my father has a garage full of class C fireworks, which is a truly great thing to have with the Red Flag Warnings up there.
Looking forward to that and the 4th activities. Squeeze in a little baseball and it is a very busy time of year damn!
My first son was born Mon. so I'm just bonding and hanging out with family. Hopefully a future wolverine in the making.
Taking it easy this weekend. Heading up to the lake house on Higgins next Thursday. The south end park always throws a huge party in the shallows that usually gets a little crazy. 4 cases, a 30 pack, and a few half gallons ususally does the trick.
Dated a girl from higgins a while back... Cool spot.
and former teammates made the Olympic 300m Steeplechase team last night, and I'm moving into a better apartment all day today. Should be a good one, capped off with some celebrating of both events.
Why is the day moves are scheduled invariably the hottest?
Same way when I moved into my house.
Cool on the Olympics. It's amazing what country vs. country and some pretty necklaces will do to create unwavering interest in me for sports you couldn't pay me to watch otherwise. That, and the cool theme music.
My move shouldn't be bad. My complex is moving me down one level due to having a douche roommate that got the electricity shut off in my apartment. MGB and I have been living in friend's places for a week now, so sweating for a few hours is well worth having my own luxuries like air conditioning, a refrigerator, stove and hot water; you know, the real high life stuff.
As far as the Olympics, I couldn't agree more about interest. It also helps that the only American sport the summer games compete with is the MLB. At this point, college basketball and softball have been done for long enough that I'm dying for some action I can really get into.
In Ann Arbor today actually, just had a meeting with the University, don't want to jinx anything but they seemed optimistic that we'd soon be working together!
Now sitting in the Starbucks on the corner of State and Liberty catching up on some emails. Just saw Mitch McGary walk around the corner, he's looking very solid.
Hey guys (and gals?),
I'm looking for a little help regarding logos and trademarks and what can/can't be used.
In my free time I make wheelthrown pottery. Recently, I've been working on putting logos on mugs. My brother said I should make some Michigan mugs. What are the rules? I suppose I could make one for my brother with a big block M or any way he wanted but what if I want to sell them at some point? I've been to this page: http://www.logos.umich.edu/usemarks.html
What does "Trademark" mean exactly? Do I really need permission to write the word "wolverines" on a mug or is that only if I'm selling it as a Michigan mug? Is it hard to get permission to use certain phrases or images? Could I offer a block M mug and let the customer pick the colors so it wouldn't explicitly be a Michigan mug? Maybe someone would like a Missouri mug? I just remember the logo contest on this blog and some shirts were pulled because of some legal issues.
I see products like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/90584558/michigan-wolverines-ready-to-hang and I wonder if I could add similar things to my pottery without getting in trouble down the road. Does it matter if I sell them as individually unique pieces?
Just to be safe I've started to come up with phrases or words that are "Michigan" but aren't on the trademark page above. A few ideas: The Team, Beat Ohio, Michigan Man, certain jersey numbers (with no names!), This is Michigan Fergodsakes, Hail, Touch the Banner...
Any other ideas?
Also, if there is a good resource concerning these issues that isn't too hard to understand let me know. I think some of this has been discussed but I couldn't find the relevant thread. I suppose I suppose I could do some internet research but I trust the users here more than other sites.
As long as you're not selling the items, or not selling them for a profit (not sure) you're ok. A tip is search for "Michigan Tattoo" info, I know that has come up before, whether or not you can get a Block M tattoo.
Thanks for the reply. I'll see what I can find out with the tattoo search.
Hitting the bars in Madison this weekend and gonna eat some delicious food. Any suggestions for a delicious sandwich place? Old Fashioned and Great Dane are on my list but was seeing if anyone else had suggestions. Also, I've only been here a couple weeks so does anyone know good grad student-esque bars?
Will be folding up shop here soon and it's been a quiet day so far.
Already loaded up the car with stuff my mgodaughter needs for summer half-term in Ann Arbor. So, a swing through Ann Arbor and then arriving at our beach house later in the evening for a week of rest and relaxation. Daughter and son will be there for the 4th. Packed up some Oberon and Shiner Wild Hare IPA for chillin' on the deck with a few brews. This is what summer is all about. Hope the local sweet cherries are still being picked and some sour pie cherries would be good, too. Nothing like a real fresh cherry pie in early July.
Unfortunately I forgot to hit "Start" on my PCR run last night, so my sample went to shit overnight costing my lab a few thousand... Got a good talking to from my PI. After I rectify the situation I'll leave here around 9. Tonight I'm getting white-boy-wasted for a friend's 21st.
Heading to Indianapolis for the 4th, first time since Christmas. USA!
This weekend I am going to propose to my girlfriend this weekend at beach house.
And I hope she doesn't read mgoblog.
Although if she does - definitely a keeper.
She is a hardcore WVU :-p blahhhhhh
Packing and driving home.
That the Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes marriage is over. I had such high hopes for those kids. Why, WHY, WHYYYYY?!?!?!?
Perhaps Tom Cruise decided he finally wanted to make "Love On A Real Train", but not necessarily with Rebecca DeMornay?
As a shrink I cannot begin to tell you how much I hate that moron
I'm inishing up work, then drinking a few homebrews tonight. Heading over to the new house tomorrow to begin building my brewery.
Enjoying this nice summer day being young and not yet having to worry about the real world. Not yet, anyway. Going to go out this evening with some friends and some fireworks and engage in random hoodrat activities. You're only young once, right?
I'm so F'in bored at work I typed this with one finger (other than the times I needed to hit shift. I used two fingers in those cases)
Isn't this fun. I'm bored at work too. I used 3 fingers to type this
"The keyboard....how quaint...."
If I ever get the balls (?) to propose to infamous boy I love from previous threads, y'all would have my back, right? MGoWedding, anyone?
ok fine..... I say yes
Do it...worth it.
On Wedding craft beer selection!
I'd marry you, but you have more Mgopoints than I do. I don't know how I would feel about that.
IN a Friday MGoBlog open thread.
He doesn't read the board, although a couple weeks ago when my name was in a thread title some folks tweeted it and he was like, "OMG MGOJEN IS FAMOUS!" and I'm prettttty sure he read the threads I had posted in. I may or may not have been outted. I suppose there are worse things. :)
So you're gonna lobby--I mean, ask him for me, right? =)
...will you take MGoJen's MGoHand in MGoMarriage?
Trust me, I can speak for her. I have lots of MGoPoints. We don't want her to ask, because she might then have balls. And we like her with the girlie bits. And you really don't want that kind of surprise on your MGoHoneymoon.
You may create a profile here to answer, or, I guess, contact Jen with your answer. But what fun would that be?
I expect an invitation to the wedding.
You're the best! =) Also I like your confidence--it has to work out, right? Things like this always do!
Though when this all started, I never imagined I'd be making an MGoProposal on here. To another dude. NTTAWWT.
Since you're going back to school should have brought him to the HTTV party, so we could ask in person. Peer Pressure!
Was my thread! I made you famous. Oh and....you guuuuyyyyys
lol! I'm obviously not famous he was totally making fun of me. But yes--you will most be certainly havet to be at this wedding...provided it all works out. =)
I'm there if you mgo send me a dm on the twitters lol
I didn't get your duplicate thread deleted. ;-)
T-minus one hour or so for me. I am eagerly awaiting some cold beers.
Hoping we do "eight and skate" tonight, then 9 days off. ( Dr. Dre voice) " Hay-ul yeah!!"
they are having a "buy one, get one for 99 cents sale". For $125 I got a surprising amount of goodies. I may have to light some tonight. Samuel Smith tells me I should do exactly that, via Nut Brown Ale
I can't start a new thread, but maybe someone can start one for me? Or leave it on here, I don't have much power either way. I was browsing Indiegogo and I saw this: http://www.indiegogo.com/JonahRuleMemorialFund?c=home
Basically a young man passed away leaving behind a wife and two very young kids. He seems to be a pretty big Michigan fan though I think considering in pretty much all the pictures he's sporting a Maize and Blue block M on a hat.
I don't really know if he was a fan or graduate, but I know the power of MGoBlog. It would be nice for the blog to help out a fellow Wolverine.
There's also a comment section, so if you do decide to donate, let them know you came from MGoBlog.
Got stuck home - the lake will have to wait until next week - but had a great night night playing catch with my son and playing with our puppy. Throw in some Oberon and some grilling and altogether not a bad evening.
I did about jack and a half today, but I DID save the company about $1000 on upcoming trade show costs and get complimented on my work by my boss. SOOOO.... should I do some work tomorrow to make up for it, or should I say "eff it" and start my fourth of July vacation? I'll be vacationing Saturday evening - Wednesday.
Tongiht, I'm about to pour myself a wee dram, play some Arkham City, and plan my trip to the release party tomorrow.
