OT: Friday-Memorial Weekend Posbang Thread
A heartfelt thanks to all of you who have dedicated your lives to the safety and protection of ours.
Lots of baseball and softball going on this weekend- playing and watching!

the long weeked, be careful and remember
Wow, somebody is excited to start the posbang. It's only 7am.
I Just wanted to say thank you to all the vets present and past.
You're welcome!
It was my pleasure! Marine Corps veteran here.
From your amphibious1 title, is it safe to assume that you worked with the amphibious Navy?
The Marines have their own amphibious assault vehicles and units. By air, by land, by sea. Though I did ride on one of the Navy's LCACs. THAT WAS AWESOME.
LCAC's are soooo bad-ass!
Worked with these USN Hydrofoils some too. They're pretty bad-ass in their own right. These things fly! The Navy uses them off the coast for, among other things, drug-ops.
My dad was in the Marines in his early 20s. Now he is a retired cop.
Looks like Germany? I was born in Wurzburg, while my dad was stationed in Kitzingen, where a brigade of the 3rd ID was.
a Bridge X, we were moving to the bridgehead over the Main River somewhere about half way between Bamberg and Schweinfurt.
Good times.
there is no such thing as too early to bang.
First, I was all:
then my wife was like, "our kids will be gone and we'll have the house to ourselves tonight" and I was like:
YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when you can have a wife bang?!?!?
I like where your head's at.
This is a time to honor those who gave therir lives in service of our country and to think of their families and loved ones. I also plan on rooting for our softball and baseball teams.
I personally love Central Park. It isn't quite as flashy as those other destinations, but it's this incredibly beautiful and vibrant cultural center that just happens to be plopped down in the middle of an enormous city. It's pretty peaceful and gorgeous and I definitely recommend a short detour to check it out.
and make sure you try Katz Deli or some other iconic place like that...sammiches as big as your head.
Take a stroll down the Highline Park, which was built on top of an old unused elevated rail line running down the west side through Chelsea and the Village. Pretty cool, and you can walk off at any point to grab a bite or a beer.
I agree with the poster who said a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is a good idea. If you're going to the 9/11 Memorial, you can walk across the island at that point, stop in at the Seaport district (I believe the Seaport mall stores are closing or have closed, but that neighborhood has transformed since the city relocated the Fulton Fish Market, and now there are several cool bars and restaurants in one of the few places in lower Manhattan where you can see buildings that survived the great fire in the early 19th century). From there it is a short walk to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Going to the Empire State Building? If you're going to be around on Sunday, keep in mind that the Rangers are playing game 4 against Montreal and it will be a zoo in midtown. If you want to be near the Garden on game day to enjoy that craziness, I suggest Harrington's pub on 7th just south of the Garden for food and drink, or the Flying Puck just down the block. Both will be packed to the gills with hockey fans. Full disclosure: my friend owns both, and our sons play junior hockey together.
Have fun and safe driving, I did that road trip many times when I was in grad school in AA.
(P.S. at the 9/11 Memorial, if you see the name "Marc Zeplin" please say "Go Blue". He was my student in the very first class I taught at UM. You never forget the first class you teach and you never forget the bright students in that class and he was one of them.)
Three volleys of seven.
At my great uncle's funeral (Silver Star WWII Vet - Pacific Theater) the Marines sent three Marines who fired seven volleys, then presented a flag to my great aunt. I had not seen it done that way before.
Anyway, thanks to all who have served the country in the various branches of the military. It's good to remember them on Monday and every day.
My grandfather, a Master Chief who was in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam also recieved seven volleys of 3.
remember those who served for this great country.
The grandeur that is the cycle of life.
Advance congratulations from both the blog and the whole M family! Hope all goes well!
My son was born last year on Memorial Day! Weirdly enough, his due date was the day I joined the Marines. I probably should have named him Washington Jefferson Patriot. We went with Adrian instead.
Adrian Jefferson Patriot doesn't have quite the same ring to it, but whatever.
Adrian Arrington Washington (insert your last name here). Arrington went to Cedar Rapids Washington HS, for relevance. A buddy of mine (last name Roll) always joked he would name his first son "John Riggins Roll."
Congratulations!
his magic million points he had last weekend when his wife had a false alarm.
good luck and go blue!
and you still find time to post on MGoBlog. Well done ma'am
Congrats on the little one
