OT: Former M commit Taylor Groves to Ole Miss

Former Michigan defensive back commit Taylor Groves committed to Ole Miss today. His primary recruiter? Former Michigan safeties coach Chris Partridge.

Also, I didn't find out about this until today, but class of 2022 kicker A.J. Vinatieri (son of Adam) visited Michigan today. According to Kornblue Kicking, he's the #12 kicker in the class. Michigan hasn't offered, and they had the #1 kicker (Will Bettridge) on campus last week. Additionally, the State of Michigan has 4 of the top 11 kickers in the nation in the 2022 and 2023 classes, so I'm not sure how much they will need to expand their board.

Kicker: the most thankless job in football.

You're a stud? Lol, you're just the kicker. You're not even a real football player.

You miss the GW field goal? You are literally the worst. You have ONE job. What the [expletive] is wrong with you?!

Team doesn't have a competent kicker? Jesus Christ, how can we not have a competent kicker?! Coaching staff SUCKS!

From wiki:

The nickname "Ole Miss" dates to 1897, when it was the winning entry of a contest held to solicit suggestions for a yearbook title. Interviewed by the student newspaper, The Mississippian, in 1939, Meek stated: "I had often heard old 'darkies' on Southern plantations address the lady in the 'big house' as 'Ole Miss'... the name appealed to me, so I suggested it to the committee and they adopted it."

This the first time I've heard this.

Groves is listed as a wide receiver on Rivals, but the Wolverines recruiting him strictly as a safety. With Groves out of the picture, Michigan has two commits in the secondary in five-star cornerback Will Johnson and four-star safety Kody Jones. Both are solid and will make official visits to U-M in June.

I know everyone has their own opinions of schools, what they look for and all of that, but I just have trouble wrapping my head around turning down Michigan for the opportunity to play for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss.

I know Michigan hasn’t had a ton of recent success, but When I think of Ole Miss football, I’m reminded of scandal and failure. Good luck.

Taylor Groves is an excellent player. It was a loss when he de-committed. He could have been a corner or safety here. I like how he plays.
