OT: Florida's football stadium has some backed seats?
I was just watching some footage of Tebow walking into the stands on ESPN that they keep showing and is the bench seating of Florida's stadium, there are some seats with and some without blue chair backs with the gator logo on them. Anybody know why there aren't these backs on all of the seats? Seems like a weird thing to do. Do fans get these and just leave them there and then there is a general understanding that nobody can touch them? Or are they permanent? I guess this just struck me as an odd thing I just happened to notice.

From what I know not all seats have them, but it is something else the University sells errr "offers" to season ticket holders at a price. They are permanently attached on your seat that you paid for.

I thought I saw those seats on TV or something at another stadium. I guess I'm surprised Michigan doesn't offer this. It seems like older people would want this, and I know there are plenty of older folks at Michigan games. Seems like the U of M could make some serious cash off of these seats.

UF "sells" them to season ticket holders for the season. I think I heard up to $500 (although I could be completely wrong) to have one of these attached to your bench seat. They're a pain in the neck though when you're trying to run the stadium to stay (get) in shape!

I've had one of the backed seats there before, on the western side around the 50-yard line. It's actually really comfy, not going to lie.

I do not know why they have them because when i was there everyone stands for the whole game

Most games, yeah. I had those seats when the Hawkeyes played Maine in 2008, so there wasn't a ton of standing and cheering. Because they won. By a lot.

But do they limit the legroom of surrounding fans?
October 6th, 2009 at 7:05 PM ^
not really limit leg room but they can poke you in the leg/knee the whole game

If you are used to having your knees in the person in front's back or around them, that is out.

They have these at Ross-Ade Stadium. They're offered to season ticket holders, and are basically just those seat cushions with backs on them, but I think they bolt them to the bench there. You're not allowed to bring a cushion with a back on it into the stadium either, so the only way to have one is to have season tickets and pay for it.

How much do they charge for those approximately?

Probably too much.

Ohio state and UNC also have this

They have them in the glorified MAC stadium in East Lansing too.

sitting behind me at the game last weekend its around $100 for the season/seat. They said they liked them because they guaranteed them their seat space.

I've been screwed over before with seat space for one reason or another, so that would be another positive of those seats.

I was just at NC State (Carter Finley Stadium) for the U2 concert. By that way, it was amazing. But, they had those chair backs there too. Kinda nice. Did not affect anything other than your own comfort. I personally would never pay for that extra perk, but it was comfy. At a football game, you should be standing, so it's a non-issue.

they're adding chairback seats in michigan stadium for next year where the old press box was

Went to see the Packers-Bears game with a buddy a couple of years ago. The "slide-in backs" cost an extra $14 each. Worth every penny. Funny thing was that most of the crowd wouldn't pay for 'em, preferring to spending the money on beer.
Half the crowd wore Packers stuff, other half wore bright orange or camouflage hunting gear. Hysterical.

NU has them too, they are pretty common

of places that offer flexible soft-cushion seatbacks for some seats in some sections.
Penn State has them too, I believe.
It is very common.
Personally, they don't do much for me. I bring a flat cushion to fewer than half the games in Michigan stadium. I suppose the biggest value (imo) is that the attached cushions with seatbacks enforce your sitting in your assigned seats, and prevent extra people from cramming in, or pushing over, etc.
On the other hand, it is harder to spread out when there are people in your row who haven't shown up and there is available space.
