OT: Florida's football stadium has some backed seats?

Submitted by HartAttack20 on
I was just watching some footage of Tebow walking into the stands on ESPN that they keep showing and is the bench seating of Florida's stadium, there are some seats with and some without blue chair backs with the gator logo on them. Anybody know why there aren't these backs on all of the seats? Seems like a weird thing to do. Do fans get these and just leave them there and then there is a general understanding that nobody can touch them? Or are they permanent? I guess this just struck me as an odd thing I just happened to notice.

From what I know not all seats have them, but it is something else the University sells errr "offers" to season ticket holders at a price. They are permanently attached on your seat that you paid for.

They have these at Ross-Ade Stadium. They're offered to season ticket holders, and are basically just those seat cushions with backs on them, but I think they bolt them to the bench there. You're not allowed to bring a cushion with a back on it into the stadium either, so the only way to have one is to have season tickets and pay for it.

I was just at NC State (Carter Finley Stadium) for the U2 concert. By that way, it was amazing. But, they had those chair backs there too. Kinda nice. Did not affect anything other than your own comfort. I personally would never pay for that extra perk, but it was comfy. At a football game, you should be standing, so it's a non-issue.

Went to see the Packers-Bears game with a buddy a couple of years ago. The "slide-in backs" cost an extra $14 each. Worth every penny. Funny thing was that most of the crowd wouldn't pay for 'em, preferring to spending the money on beer. Half the crowd wore Packers stuff, other half wore bright orange or camouflage hunting gear. Hysterical.

of places that offer flexible soft-cushion seatbacks for some seats in some sections. Penn State has them too, I believe. It is very common. Personally, they don't do much for me. I bring a flat cushion to fewer than half the games in Michigan stadium. I suppose the biggest value (imo) is that the attached cushions with seatbacks enforce your sitting in your assigned seats, and prevent extra people from cramming in, or pushing over, etc. On the other hand, it is harder to spread out when there are people in your row who haven't shown up and there is available space.
