OT - The Detroit Red Wings and Keeping the Puck out of the Net

Submitted by NOLA Wolverine on

Mrazek pulled in the second after giving up four goals. He replaced a yanked Howard two games ago, and then shut out the Lightning. This situation is going to be reaching critical mass soon with the playoffs coming up. Who do we roll with going forward?

He hasn't been good on b2b nights so this is status quo for him.  Howie has been struggling in all games.  One thing I will say (without watching today's game) is that three of NYI's goals came on the PP.  That may be a contributing factor.

but they've had some bad bounces the last few games (minus TB). Compund that with the soft defensive play as of late and you'll give up a lot of goals. Have Pav back in the lineup should help a little on defense.

We were riding a good wave of optimistic goaltending talk around Detroit yesterday. This game pretty much puts a damper on things. I guess we have to hope it was just the back to back start that affected Mrazek. I believe Jimmy Howard is what he is. I think Mrazek has a higher ceiling and will improve.

Defense has been poor at times, too many turnovers, especially in the defensive zone. For the playoffs i think you have to go with Howard based on his having experienced Stanley Cup playoff hockey. He has had some success, ie, two years ago taking eventual champion Chicago to OT in game seven
