Strange Brew is without a doubt one of my all time favorite movies. I've seen it more times than Doug's seen Jedi, eh.. This is a legitimate post at trying to get others to watch what is imo one of the best comedies of all time. Give it a chance, you hosers.

If you can find a copy of "The Great White North", which is the comedy album that in part inspired this film, hang onto it. It's hilarious and well worth your time. I am fortunate that my father had this one on vinyl, of all things. Between that and "Strange Brew", you get an even better appreciation for what Moranis and Thomas created here.

My brother and I just helped our father get his house in order... he's 75 and we are going to down size his life. In one of the closets my brother found a bunch of our old stuff including some old albums and the Great White Album was one of them. We listened to it while we worked. My favorite is still the Beer Hunter. Take off!

That, and all of us who grew up in the Detroit area watching CBC children's programming. Once you move out of the area and get all nostalgic about Fred Penner and Mr. Dress-Up and all that, but no one knows what the hell you're talking aboot...

OK guys, stay with me here, because Strange Brew was actually a retelling of Hamlet:

  • The main character's father is secretly murdered by his brother.
  • The brother then marries the main character's mother.
  • The main character is informed of the murder by the father's dead ghost ("nice special effects, eh?")
  • The main character's "significant other" goes insane.
  • Elsinore brewery - Hamlet's castle was Elsinore castle.

I also watched the movie about 100 times in the 80's.  OK, it's not high art, but there is more to the movie than meet's the eye.
