OT - Comcast

Are they still doing the same promo they usually have in the Fall, with the teaser rate for 12 months and then they jack up the price? You can just cancel the service if it's under your name, return the equipment, and then have it signed up under someone else who lives in the house, correct?

although I haven't pulled that trick in a few years. When you return the equipment, just say that you are moving and give your parent's (or any other) forwarding address. Usually, you need an accurate one, if they have a refund from your prepayments.

When you try and cancel their service over the phone they transfer you to the department that handles the cancellations and 100% of the time they offer you the discounted rate for the 6 or 12 months in order to try and keep you.

My promo was just up a couple weeks ago, so I called to tell them I wanted to switch to ATT unless I could get an extension of the promotional rate. Instead of Comcast giving me another promo, they tried to get me to sign up for the HD cable package (I don't have an HDTV) and phone service for even more money. So, I switched to ATT - better cable package than I had with Comcast and they gave me $250 back for signing up online.

Yea, I've heard it's hit or miss depending on the sales person you get. We've been lucky the two or three times we've had to do it in the different places we've lived. I think we're going to switch to ATT for real when our current deal ends, unless of course they want to throw in even more free shit.

Tell them you want to disconnect service. 50% of the time they will let you keep the intro rate for 6 more months. After that you can always say you are moving and get comcast in somebody else's name. I have even pulled off getting comcast back in my name after a one month gap!

My intro period with comcast has expired and they will not extend it. There is not another cable company that covers my neighborhood. I am wondering about experiences with a dish, particularly with respect to college football coverage.

I've had DirecTV for five years now (Chicago). They're awesome and make ComCrap look like dog poo. DirecTV immediately added the BTN without a penny increase in rate. I've had ShowTime, Starz and IFC, for free, for a year now just for being a loyal customer. Recently, they gave me three free PPV movies as another Thank You. When the year of free premium channels is up (October), I'm going to ask for the rest of the year of NFL Sunday Ticket. I hope they say 'yes' because I'm just sick of da Bears and the Packers. Oh, and their Customer Service is just that, not some jerk bag doing their best to dick you around.
