OT- Clint Dempsey goal
*Caution: soccer content
Although Fulham lost today, Clint Dempsey had quite possibly the best goal I've seen from an American abroad.

Obviously a bit of luck to a strike like that but still an awesome goal. Everyone is always looking for the next big playmaker to emerge from the player pool to pump up our WC chances (from Jermaine Jones to Holden to even Beasley returning), but I think one of the biggest potential increases in onfield talent at a single position is Dempsey bringing his club form to the USMNT. If the Dempsey of the US team performs like the Dempsey of Fulham that could make up for a lot of what we're missing without Davies, and potentially open up a spot on the wing (granted we're not full of midfield options, but there are more than at forward)

lets hope for a strike like that this summer against the Brits.

...a quality guy like Dempsey be the 'face' of US Soccer instead of Donovan?
I don't know about other soccer fans, but I absolutely cannot stand Donovan.

Reason? The Donovan of the last year or so has been consistently running his ass off, being the largest threat on the field. Once Chuck D started to emerge as a quality striker, Landon became that much better. The guy is an elder statesman of the team and seems to bring it every time. I realize he's let people down in the past, and failed in Europe, but I don't understand the Landon hate from USMNT fans. I think Dempsey is absolutely capable of being the best Yank on the pitch every time he suits up, but until he ditches what I perceive to be a bit of a bad attitude I'll have Landon as the face of the team any day.

Agree with everything you just said. It seems like Dempsey is too complacent with the Nats. I want the hungry, rapping Dempsey of old.

donovan out hussles demsey in his sleep. the only time dempsey seems to care is when bradley has him attacking the net. lets hope all the boys are drinking their creative calcium and it all comes together "Over Theeeeeeere..."

I will never forget the fact that Dempsey was in tears after the loss to Brazil in the Confed Cup last year. He was literally weeping after that game, and that is when I truly became a Dempsey fan. I hope and pray that is the Dempsey we will see this summer.

Is the class of the team, he constantly both scores goals and sets up his teammates. Until someone else comes along and does it better, he is the leader and best...
Donovan has his faults, but if you watch a MNT match, the best opportunities come via Donovan or his setup.

I guarantee a chill went down the spines of everyone in attendance at that game after seeing an American score a goal like that.

Ridiculous strike. Gotta love those ones that seemingly come out of nowhere.
Dempsey needs to be playing up top with Chuck D out. His best play at the Confed Cup came late in games when they moved him forward. His occasional disinterest (which is why Donovan is the better player -- you never see him loafing or being mentally stupid, he busts his ass for the full 90 minutes every single game for country) would be less damaging up top as well. Holden (or Beasley if this recent run of form is a return to form rather than a flash in the pan) and Donovan can play the wings with Deuce and Jozy up front. Makes us better offensively and defensively.
