OT - Chris Olave returning to OSU

I continue to be baffled by their ability to get uber-talented players to come back. Has a very MSU basketball feel to it. *sigh*

Don't forget O$U is a billion dollar franchise.

Ohio State has actually developed a culture where you can build a career as a professional Ohioan.  Look at Griffin, Spielman, the Boron brothers, et al.

There is a lot more money involved at that level than they are given credit for.

This is my exact thought. He isn’t coming back if he doesn’t believe the QB next year can deliver and improve his draft stock. Same with Ruckert. They both have seen who is going to be throwing the football to them in practice and said “yeah, I’ll do well coming back”. Fair to assume there won’t be a huge drop off after Fields.

Wow, pretty sure osu fans had him at about 99% chance of leaving.

I don’t think they lose any receivers and they have the best receiving class coming in as freshmen.

Must be nice.

Always love this logic... turn down millions in the NFL to come back their senior year, get a degree, and (hopefully) improve there draft position for next year. But yeah... they chose to return to OSU for money. My god you must have an IQ somewhere between 1 and 5. You're intellectually lazy my man.

Sorry Rob... I typically enjoy the discussion and opinions on this blog, hence the reason I peruse it from time to time. But the lazy, "OSU just pays players" sentiment, in the face of overwhelming logic that Olave would inarguably be making  millions next year... is a head-scratcher. I mean... it's just a really lazy statement.. and some people here lap it up. Look at The Deer Hunter's response... sheesh.

Not at all... I think every major college program "bends the rules".. take that as you may. But the implication was Olave stayed because OSU was paying him... when he could literally be a millionaire in the next couple of months. That, quite literally, is a trash argument.. not sure how anyone can make it in good faith. It's born from sour grapes and frustration that UM players seem to bolt as soon as possible.

I had no malice in my reply.. just calling out a really stupid post.

He didn't do jack shit against Alabama because their DC wasn't stupid enough to cover him 1:1 without a safety over the top and they physically mauled his little ass from the line if scrimmage. Dr. Blitz should have watched this game. Football has changed since Don Brown coached Abraham Lincoln at Springfield High School

lol, i believe before the playoffs i said bama WR's would torch OSU's secondary and you decided to say i was a dumbfuck that should stay in my parents basement or some bullshit and go play xbox..

You then proceeded to say OSU wr's would stomp all over bama's defense..  Neither of which happened.

You never cease to amaze me with the idiotic posts scfan

It's hard to argue with the fact the kids like to hang around in some instances.  I also find these statements without an inquisitive question about what is different.

I'd propose the fact that school is really not much of an interference, they get treated like royalty, they most certainly receive benefits and they can train like a professional athlete for another year with coaching and trainin gon par with the NFL experience.

So, is it culture?  Culture screams camaraderie, being there for your brother, the entire college experience is celebrated, etc.  I'd ask you to go watch a big college basketball game and see if you see a collection of their stars in the student section.  You won't.  It's a business and run as such.
