OT - Cabrera spent three months in AA, says 'life is good'
Hopefully he stays clean, keeps making progress on the field and serves as a good role model.

drinking the night before the game, I'd like to see his numbers when he's not drinking the night before the game.

After his midnight drinking he was not helping the team and probably help cause the team from missing the playoffs. He was a major reason for them being in that position but in the end he sure did not help them that last week of the season.

The whole team slipped that week, it is not fair to put it on him. He was hitting alone on an island, and clearly pressing toward the end. He carried the offense for the entire second half of the season. I'm very very excited to see what he can do this year with an improved focus.

I was confused for a moment and wondered why the Tigers would drop Cabrera to AA or why AA baseball was being played in the winter.

yeah, I could have sworn I saw him at Briarwood.

is Inge's excuse?

Inge's knee ligaments are made of spun glass.
What is your excuse?

...but this thread is making me want to have a beer.

I spent three months wondering if the Tigers would have won their first Division since '84 if he wouldn't have gone boozing the last weekend of the season.
Look, I get that its not all his fault. Its great he got help and I hope he can stay sober. But, this one is kinda tough to forgive and forget. Especially since you never know when a baseball team will have such a good shot at a division. (I concede that they had no chance of beating NY.)

What would happen to Mantle in the modern era and under the microscope such as today?
January 21st, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
The Tigers started Figaro in the second to last game of the season.
True...Cabrera was hanging over as much as we were on a Sunday morning after an extended stay in our favorite watering hole after a football game in A2, but other factors came into play.
I hope he keeps his AA attendance up during the season when he can.

I wonder about this. I don't really know how AA works, but could he drop into meetings in cities he is visiting? Is that feasible? Can we take for granted that the organization is going to help him in his effort to remain sober or is he on his own once they hit the road?

The point of this thread was to look to the future and be happy, not to blame Cabrera for last season's end
With 162 games in a season, you can not blame one person when two teams end up tied. If Seay didn't make that one bad pitch in April, just Inge got one base that one time in May, is Leyland would have stuck with the starter one more inning in June.......the Tigers would have won the division. Statically speaking, the Tigers and Twins were nearly perfectly even teams. Hell, even the 163rd game went well past 9 innings. To give more blame to one player it just grossly unfair, no matter the anecdotal events of the last week of the season.
With that said, I bet Cabrera ends up in the top three in league MVP voting this upcoming season. Be ready for the MONSTER season.

You are correct about 162 games, etc. But he sure picked a really shitty time to get plowed with buddies from the White Sox.
Hope you're right about Miggy in 2010 - just hope its not on a team that's 15+ games out.
