In Brownstown at the Ice Box, I immediately got in line and got his autograph. They were practicing and I begged my Mom to let me stay and watch. She took off shopping and I stayed (it was a different time back then) He put on a clinic out there he was fast and strong, they were skating aroud the whole rink just getting loose and somebody passed a puck his way he just took the pass and with one hand flipped the puck in the top corner effortlessly like my wrist shot I needed two hands for. The man was hockey and he did have gigantic wrists from a career of wrist shots. Back in his day there weren't many slapshots in the NHL all wrist shots and not one helmet on amyone either.
when i was young: he told me to get the shaft of a busted hockey stick and a length of rope. tie the rope to the stick, holding the stick parallel to the ground with both hands held straight out, at shoulder height. put some form of weight(s) at the end of the rope and slowly roll the rope/weight up, then down, then up, then down. repeat until shoulders/wrists on fire. rest. repeat again.
when I said Gordie and his son Mark were on the ice at the same time and I am sure they were playing for the Whalers at that time. I was thinking World Hockey league but I believe it could have been some of the Whalers...It was a diffenet time SOB we just lost power. OMG no air OMG.......
