OT- Book Learnin

Submitted by FatGuyTouchdown on

We're in peak offseason, so I figure now is a good time to catch up on some reading. Specifically books as they relate to College Football. What's some suggestions for the hardcore fan?

Some of mine:

1. 4th and Long- John U Bacon

2. The Meat Market- Bruce Feldman

3. The System- Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian.

Worst:

1. That horseshit book Rosenberg published.

Anyone else have any favorites?

Did you really hate Rosenberg's book or are you just saying that because of the articles he wrote?

I happened to really enjoy the book (I didn't know much about that era at the time).  I am of course upset over how he treated the program afterwards, but I don't let that affect my appreciation of his book.

Easy and very good read...2 days max.

If you are going outside of the football realm, check out any of Lee Child's Jack Reacher tales. Great books! Unfortunately, they casted Tom Cruise to play the part in the movie.  Jack Reacher = BAD A$$...Tom Cruise = Candy A$$

I say this every time someone asks about M books. It's a great read about Benny Friedman, a Michigan great that too many of us know nothing about.

the only one i've ever read (was a gift), and not very uplifting, was "death to the bcs." I like to think it actually contributed to its demise, but even now it's still very revealing in terms of extortion of our schools by bowl committees, including the bowls running the playoff and all the way down to the 5-7 bowls as someone who never bought into the "reward for the players" line, this removed any doubt in my mind about the real incentives
