OT: Best site for first time gamblers?
I've decided to finally put down some real money on Michigan this season, outside of the $5 friendly bets and such. My question is what is the best site to use for security and ease of getting paid? A friend suggested bovado but I figured there would be a good wealth of knowledge on the subject here. Thanks!
Your friend had a good suggestion. I would add that the site you reference is getting more popular as it has very soft poker tables so it may draw the attention of those that seize (i.e, steal) player funds in the future.

I'd be interested in putting in $50-100 in with someone to bet on Michigan games and maybe other various games. If someone has an account or is making one, I'd be willing to pitch in if we figured a way to make it work.
It's not illegal for you to place bets. US banks are not allowed to (knowingly) process transactions from offshore gambling sites. It just makes it a bit more of a hassle to get money on and off the sites, that's all.

If ya just wanna put a little action on us to put some skin in the game, then have at it. But if you have love for a team just enjoy watching them play, because you can never objectively assess them, and that's the key to (successful) gambling.

I can take your money, i mean bets...Whats your credit card number?
I'll put my dad hat on. If by real money you mean money you're prepared to lose, then go for it. I always take the attitude that money used for gambling is an entertainment expense--that is, I don't expect a return on it anymore than I do for any other money I spend. The casual gambler going in expecting to come out ahead generally doesn't understand statistics or odds very well.
the mind reels with possibilities to finish that sentence.

I don't think sports betting is very similar to stock investment... Especially when you start talking about investing in mutual funds.
I guess day-trading might be similar to sports betting.

Yeah, I already have a small gambling fund, 10 or so a week on scratch offs, I just stopped that a couple months ago and decided to get a little better odds for my money this season and bet on Michigan instead. :)
I always expect to lose what I bet and I'm already on a high or low if they win or lose, this just adds to it a bit and what better year to do it than when odds are being made mostly on Michigan's record last year without Harbaugh?
Also thanks for all the info everyone, much appreciated!
If I was a betting man, and I don't bet, I would bet on the 49ers possibly going 0-16 this year. Should get some good odds on that and you would have cosmic karma on your side.
Bookmaker.eu is BY FAR the best site out there to bet online. They've been around close to 20 years now and I've never heard of anything shady ever involving them.
I would put it a tie with BM and Pinnacle (who don't take U.S. bettors nowadays) as being the top 2 places in the world to place a bet and that also includes betting in Las Vegas also. They have the highest limits, best options, always pay, best odds/juice.
The most important thing though is they put out the opening football numbers on Sunday meaning you can take a stab at a game when the betting markets are at their softest.
If you recognize good line value you will have some bets in pocket where your team is +4 for example and they may open up only +3 when all of the other sportsooks start to post their numbers a few hours after BM's openers have been hit. Those extra points make a huge difference over the long haul.
Most watchdog sites will say places like Bookmaker plus:
bet dsi
bet 365
bet online
heritage
5 Dimes
Call and make sure they still take U.s customers but I think all still do.
