OT- Beginning of "Great TV Week" doesn't disappoint
Last night kicked off what I hope to be a great week of TV.
* Big Bang Theory (likely a favorite of many MGoNerds) was quite possibly one of the top episodes of the series (others being Panty Pinata, Sheldon driving, and Comic Book competition w/ Wil Wheaton). Who didn't want to take a running leap into a ball pit after that episode?
* Chuck & House were solid as was 24. Both series are returning to solid if not spectacular status after so-so previous seasons.
* How I Met Your Mother is DVR'd for today after work.
* Tonight is Lost. And man am I pumped up up for this. Especially since an article I read about it yesterday indicated they're finally going to explain the Dharma - Michigan connection... I'm really hoping for a flashback to 1970's Ann Arbor.
* Then to top it off we have new eps of Psych and Burn Notice later this week, not to mention some sort of football game and outdoor hockey game.
Damn I love TV in February....

I had the same thought this morning. I totally agreee with your list...though everything is TIVO'd right now. Add on all day ESPN for recruiting tomorrow, and Super Bowl Sunday...damn, what a fine week to be a couch potato.

Wow, I watch literally none of those shows, and I definitely watch me some television. I've always been meaning to catch Chuck, though. My favorites are 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Community, The Office, Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show, the Colbert Report, Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bored to Death, what else...? Law & Order mainline even with its current insane conservative bent. I've also got some guilty pleasures like RuPaul's Drag Race which is just fascinating. I just realized that's almost all comedy. Where's the good TV drama these days?
I don't have cable or a tivo so I watch most of these on http://www.ninjavideo.net, which is like tivo for everybody. Honestly I don't know why it hasn't been shut down, two years going strong.

is Lost. and the rest are on HBO or showtime.
but after Lost is over, TV is really going to suck in the way of serial dramas.

I think LOST will go down as the biggest and most significant TV series of this and the last decade.

But Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bored to Death are all over, so you're only covering Sunday and Thursday with the shows left. Big Bang Theory and HIMYM on Mondays (the 2 shows in between them are not worth your time), and LOST now on Tuesdays would wrap things up nicely.
(But, am I the only one who thinks the Cleveland Show is unwatchable?)

Never got into the Cleveland Show and personally I think Family Guy jumped the shark about 4 years ago.

Why are you bringing me down!?

It's definitely not good, but for some reason I keep watching it, so it must offer me something. It's kind of like a Seth McFarlane screensaver.

I think last night's House was the best one since the season opener. Definitely a good to great episode.
Lookin forward to LOST tonight, though disappointed that I didn't have time the last few weeks/months to go back and watch Season 5 again. Gonna need a refresher before tonight.

They usually have a somewhat thorough look back at the past season when a new season is beginning. Not as in depth as you would probably prefer but it does the trick.

The ususal pre-new-season Lost recap episode. Actual 2-hr premier starts at 9pm.

Jeff JEnsen's columns on Lost have been invlauable in keeping up with the nuances of the show and his entries for today don't disappoint.

Jensen's columns are so meticulous and thorough, I find it difficult to discuss any LOST theories or mysteries with anyone who doesn't read them. And I'm fairly certain viewers who didn't read his columns are going to be much less satisfied with the conclusion of the series

Does he have some connections to Producer or writer of Lost? Or is he just a LOST genius?
February 2nd, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^
A bit of both, he has access to them just being a writer for Entertainment Weekly. Really though, he is a man obsessed. Every small thing in every episode is investigated (books people are reading, songs playing, etc) along with the bigger stuff. The etymology of new characters' names, the rules/effects of time travel as they are seen in the show, theories on each character, and of course the greater mysteries of the show as a whole. I honestly don't always have time to read everything he writes each week before the next episode airs

Heroes and Fringe to the list of dramas I think are worth a viewing.

The DHARMA-UM connection has already been explained. Gerald DeGroot, the founder of the DHARMA Initiative, was a UM grad student.

but they never actually SHOWED Ann Arbor.... I'm still hoping for some secret DHARMA lab to be unveiled underneath the UGLi or East Engineering.
