OT: Adam Wilk called up to Detroit, will start on Saturday
With Fister going on the DL over the weekend, someone obviously was going to have to take his spot. Well, it looks like the decision has been made (per Chris Iott, MLive):
The Tigers selected Wilk to start Saturday against the White Sox in Chicago. The Tigers needed a starting pitcher to take the place of Doug Fister, who went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left costochondral strain.
Andy Oliver and Casey Crosby both struggled in their starts (Sunday and Monday, respectively), while Wilk posted a really solid outing: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 6 Ks, 0 runs allowed.
The other good news? The player to be demoted to make room for Wilk is Brandon Inge!
Inge will be the designated hitter tonight for the Mud Hens as he begins a rehabilitation assignment from a left hamstring strain. He is eligible to return from the disabled list Saturday.
Let's hope he tears it up in Toledo, thus improving his trade stock, and someone bites and makes an offer for him.

Nobody's ever going to offer what the Tigers think he's worth.

I wouldn't mind getting wrong.

Inge wasn't demoted, he was on the DL and wasn't counting towards the 25 man roster in the first place.

Really, why not?

Yeh, I would bet that Villareal is demoted for WIlk

That would be my guess as well. Leave Villareal in the relief role until Saturday.

I guess this means Below will remain in the Long Relief role. He has been solid there. 2-0 with a 0 ERA. .38 WHIP

...I know someone else (with enough MGoBlog points) will get a game thread up-and-running soon. But burrrrrr, it's gonna be cold (low 40's) in Detroit for today's game vs. the Rays, lets hope Porcello gets off to a good start for today and the 2012 Season. A 7+ inning quality start today would give the bullpen a breather, setting things up nicely for the next several games this week.

I would love to see Porcello get to the 7th, but in this cold weather and being his first start, I highly doubt he will last that long unless his pitch count is under 80.
