OT - 6/13 Euro/Copa America Open Thread
With Copa America starting tonight, there will be several days over the next week or so where you can watch soccer from 9am til 10pm. Oh how I’ve missed international tournaments.
Today’s Schedule (ET):
9am - England v Croatia - ESPN
12pm - Austria v North Macedonia - ESPN
3pm - Netherlands v Ukraine - ESPN
5pm - Brazil v Venezuela - FOX
8pm - Colombia v Ecuador - FS2
Whoa, whoa, slow down there, maestro. There’s a NORTH Macedonia???
It’s the same country that was Macedonia but Greece took exception to it being called that.
Correct--but here are the nuances. North Macedonia was part of Yugoslavia and adopted that name. But the ancient Macedonia aligns with an area of Northern Greece that is known as Macedonia. Today's North Macedonia aligns with an ancient kingdom known as Paeonia.
So yeah...It's as if Canada broke up and a newly independent Quebec started referring to itself as "New England," claiming George Washington as a forefather, and declaring that their language is "American."
Good start for England. Croatia can barely do anything with the ball
Sterling opens the scoring for England. 1-0
Ukraine is weak!
edit: tried and failed to add Seinfeld subway screen gif with Ukrainian guy smashing the risk board. Because mobile
Here you go, friend.
Oh, Crimea river
A fucking road apple!
"there will be several days over the next week or so where you can watch soccer from 9am til 10pm"
I love it.
Very impressed with how England has completely shut off the middle of the field for Croatia.
I'm here for this. Been watching the Euros and very much looking forward to the Copa since that's always insane.
Great goal by Austria. 1-0 over NM
Macedonian Father Time has evened it up. Austrian keeper loses control of the ball and Pandev poaches a goal
Eriksen was one of my favorite players when he was at Spurs, glad to see the outpouring of support for him at this tournament.
Love how Pandev was at just the right place at just the right time and it's crazy to me how many people don't seem to think that's a skill in soccer.
It was always my best skill.
Well said KGB man!
I view it a lot like rebounding or crashing the net. Some players have a knack for knowing which way the ball will bounce off the rim. Some soccer players can tell which way a shot will be deflected or are just relentless in following the play.
Great delivery by Alaba
North Macedonia with an admirable effort but Austria’s talent pulled through
That was a silly goal by Ukraine. Holy shit.
WOW
What a fucking game.
Ukraine! We’ve got a ballgame folks.
