OSU Football and Basketball WIFI Upgrades not Approved

Submitted by Rdog on

OSU was planning on adding WIFI coverage for both football and basketball but the projects were not approved.  Cost would have been 9.5M or about 1.5 years of Urban Meyer's salary:

Two proposed projects aimed at improving Ohio State University’s sports infrastructure – including adding Wi-Fi at Ohio Stadium and the Schottenstein Center – are on hold after trustees expressed frustration about them during an unusually tense meeting Thursday morning.

Ohio State's football and basketball venues were slated to get Wi-Fi systems next year to improve the fan experience, at a cost of $9.5 million, according to a proposal by the athletic department.

That's OK. Most OSU fans believe that "WIFI" is really just a government plot to infiltrate their brains and steal their secrets (during the brief moments the tinfoil helmets fall off), thereby making the UN's conquest of America via Chinese special ops troops in black helicopters just that much easier. I did hear that they approved free bottled water, which as we all know is free from mind-altering fluoride...

others prefer communication using smoke signals. Or perhaps they send messages to each other by tattooing them on someone. To each his own.....

Not naive here. I know why someone would want wifi service at a football game. What I don't know is WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT WIFI SERVICE AT A FOOTBALL GAME!!! Observe the world people.

It is indefensible to me how rarely other scores from around the country are displayed on the video boards. They should probably have a marquee at the bottom of the board that continuously scrolls the scores of other relevant games.

Until that is fixed, at every 5 minute commercial interruption (thanks ESPN), I'll try to use my phone to access said scores. Not that I'm ever successful.

a mile from the stadium, and on game days I can't call or send texts for about a 5 hour window. The cell traffic is just that massive. Which is kind of annoying, but on the other hand, completely amazing. Nobody can bug me during games.* (*except wife.)

Yeah, but then Gene Smith will need to make a note to call back every six months, or else the rate will double and he'll have to write a huge check one month and get really pissed and threaten to switch the entire campus to Fios or DISH!
