I was at UM from 88 thru 92.   BBall frosh class lived in my hall.   At the time it seemed like Rose Bowls were just a given every couple of years.  BBall was still a big deal because Frieder did so poorly in the Tourney.  But now that we haven't been in the Rose Bowl in like 100 yrs it sure would be cool to have a competitive FBall team.

Awesome!  I logged in to plead but it seems like you already have it covered.

Live in Korea so couldn't watch it - but remember that season like it was yesterday (sort of, with cloudiness due to the addition of old age and a lot of beer).

Can't wait.

That wasn't a freak game, Loyola Marymount was good and they played the most up-tempo game possible. Every game. And Michigan's players couldn't wait to play that game, and play Loyola's tempo. But Loyola was the best conditioned team in the country by far and was used to all of the running, and Michigan was not. They played right into Loyola's hands and got deservedly stomped.

I have the entire 1989 NCAA Championship six game tournament on tape.  Glen Rice was fantastic, but people forget that 7 of the top 8 players played in the NBA (except Mike Griffin).  Very talented team.

Do you have these games uploaded anywhere?  There are not enough old Michigan hoops games on youtube.  I can find a few games of Glen's on youtube.  The 1995 Miami Heat Orlando game where Glen dropped 56 pts on incredible shooting, and a few 1997 Hornets games when Glen was just dominating.  I can only find the seton Hall game on youtube now.  Any help?

"The Lord helps those who help themselves?"  I guess Rumeal took those words a bit too seriously later on, or he would have been available to interview for this program.

Also a bit odd to have all the b-roll of a sparkling Crisler considering how worn the place was during the period in question.  Bonus reality shot of the IM Building basketball courts at one point, though it never looked as pretty as that when I was a student.

I was a freshman in high school that season.  I wasn't tuned in to how Michigan basketball was doing until later in the year.  Watching the tournament run was terrific.

I really enjoyed this piece on the 1989 team.  It was great re-living some of those games from when I was a kid.

It was also great to hear Glen Rice say that the single greatest motivational speech he had ever heard was the one Bo gave the basketball team.  He said that afterwards he felt like he could climb the highest mountain.  Man, I wish I could have been in the room in person to hear one of Bo's speeches.

Nice to see Larry Henry on the documentary.

I haven't heard anything yet regarding who will take over as the new football play by play man, but he would seem to be a great candidate.  Long association with both M football and basketball during the 80s-90s, great voice, and a lot of energy/enthusiasm in the booth.

I have no idea what his football chops were, but I loved hearing his voice again.  I hadn't heard his voice in so many years.  I didn't recognize him as I don't think I'd ever seen him before, but his voice is as golden as ever.  I used to love listening to him do the game on the radio back during that whole era '87-'94 when not all of the games were on TV like they are now.

We've all heard the "Michigan Man" speech re Frieder and Fisher, but I was shocked to learn that Frieder actually was a Michigan man (I had no clue he went here). All the more shocked that he would leave his alma mater, in a time of strength, for a position that was lateral at best, but likely a downgrade. I'm glad I saw some of the comments about about shady dealings starting under Frieder (another thing I had no clue about); that makes a lot more sense, and otherwise it'd be quite sad if Bo drove away an alum having a ton of success just for some personality differences...
