Good luck
except against michigan.
I hope he puts up big numbers against us.. I also hope we win by 30+
Why? I wish the kid luck, but why do you want him to put up numbers against us?
Presumably so he looks good in every game he plays, not just every game that isn't against Michigan. This is fine with me as well as long as the "win by 30+" part also comes to pass.
Him putting up big numbers on us makes our DB's look bad, why would anyone want that?
Are there Oliver Martin Stans?
I believe so...hell one could argue Kekoa Crawford did more in his Michigan career than Oliver Martin and I never read on here “If Kekoa plays Michigan again...I hope he has a big game against us!”
Kekoa Crawford definitely did more in his career than Oliver at UM.
I'd be okay with him having a decent game against the third string after Michigan is up by 30+ points.
He wants to go where he can beat OSU. Toon soon :( ugh
And improve his chances of playing in the B1G Title Game...
I kid, I kid!
Odd place for a receiver to transfer to...
It's home.
But I'd have been happier if he chose Iowa State.
It’s his home town. More importantly the depth chart at receiver there is super thin. I think it’s like 7 guys, including walk-on, on the entire roster.
I still don’t get this move right now though unless his pride or voicing his displeasure at pt or the sainristil hype put a rift between him and the coaches.
The ball is going to get spread around this year so why not bust your butt and see how it goes vs sitting out. You can always grad transfer.
Maybe he is seeing Fields and Martell get free passes and expects one himself.
Beyond the potential waiver, some guys prefer to get a year of system and practice reps vs. grad transferring and just having spring ball and/or fall camp depending on grad date. Or he could be tired of running 4th in his own class or just want to go home.
A transfer's best approach here is debatable and kind of unknowable but plenty of potential reasons beyond a rift.
Didn't Martin have three years left? I thought he red shirted his first year here. Assuming I'm correct, it would have made sense to at least hung around for one more year and see how things turned out.
I agree with your getting reps and learning the new system point but this is about playing time. If he thought he was getting enough/some this year it would seem wise to play and then see where you were at.
We could likely see guys going pro, injuries, etc. His hearts not in it at Michigan.
edit
Oliver Miller is the player to be named later in the trade for Jake Rudock.
Iowa got a retired, overweight, ex-NBA guy for Jake Rudock? Man, we won that trade.
Actually, it would be an odd place for a running back to transfer to.
If I remember correctly, he was heavily considering Iowa before Michigan offered.
Momma, momma i'm coming home......
Ozzy
No longer an orphan, eh?
;)
Looks up at Kirk Ferentz. “Please sir, may I catch some more?”
More ???
Doesn't he have to sit out a year? Seems questionable after already having to sit for a redshirt year. Oh well, his decision I guess.
Probably not. The way degrees are handed out, he probably already has his masters.
Oliver's Army really wasn't here to stay.
Well let us not forget this guy's history. Orphanage, workhouse, Fagin, aristo's, Fagin agin, etc. He might yet be a Wolverine once or twice again!
Since he's going home he can get a waiver and play right away correct? I remember we tried it with Ty Isaac but campus fell just outside the NCAA mandated radius.
That's not the case here. I don't think he is making any claim of family hardship as the reason he is moving closer to home.
Idk, I heard someone called him a honky on campus recently. He'll be able to play immediately.
I heard he was called honky AND cracker.
There may have been a "White Lightning" too.
More likely, he got tired of all the Wes Welker comparisons
Political asylum from the repressive Harbaugh regime.
It's an NCAA dogwhistle that should earn him immediate eligibility.
I mean, are you tellin' me lack of PT isn't a hardship?
Ty applied for a hardship waiver due to his grandma (mom?) being unable to travel to see him and was denied. Similar to Luke Ford recently.
Martin would have to have a hardship type reason for going home.
There are 3 receivers ahead of him on the depth chart. How much harder is it than that?
Rumor has it, he's going to apply for a waiver due to the coaching change at Michigan (apparently, Gattis coming in as OC has "changed" the offense enough to drive him out...that will be the reasoning I'm hearing from fans here in town).
Yeah...good luck with that.
"You mean you want to transfer because the new offensive coordinator... uses more wide receivers and throws more? Denied."
Good outcome for him. He is a very "Iowa receiver."
a real gym rat
On top of that, he’s a high motor, hard nosed guy. Has a great football I.Q. and brings his lunch pail to work every day.
Got passed. Maybe could have been in the top 3 next season. Maybe not either. Must be Sainristil and Bell are the real deals.
Giles on campus yet?
Not the reason he transferred. Never really vibed with the coaching staff.
Yeah, that’s where I expected him to go. Not like he’s gonna get much more targets in that offense than ours though, if at all.
I'd have been surprised if it was any place besides Iowa.
I oscillate between being ticked that he bailed after one season of playing and being disgusted with the refusal of last year's offensive "brain trust" to use him in any meaningful way.
