That's ok. They got a FG before going in at half. Fisch/Brown put a new system in across the board. 14-3 at half against a very good team is not bad, especially considering Arizona had lost 12 in a row before Fisch/Brown got there, some by a shellacking!

You realize LSU had the worst defense in school history last year and didn't look any better in this game right?  ZC had a very good night but it didn't matter who was running it, there were holes. UCLA's other RB also went for 100+. No offense to ZC cause he is obviously very talented by RB is probably UM's most talented or close to it position, so no need to cry over spilled milk.

FCS in week one:

  • Montana 13, Washington 7
  • East Tennessee St. 23, Vanderbilt 3
  • South Dakota St. 42, Colorado St. 23
  • UC-Davis 19, Tulsa 17
  • Eastern Washington 35, UNLV 33
  • Holy Cross 38, Connecticut 28
  • Iowa St. 16, Northern Iowa 10
  • Oklahoma St. 23, Missouri St. 16
  • Kansas 17, South Dakota 14
  • Wyoming 19, Montana St. 16
  • Georgia Southern 30, Gardner-Webb 25

Six wins over FBS teams and five other games within a TD. Five of the opponents were P5, three were ranked, one in the top 10.

The growth of the FCS and the lower end of the FBS has definitely lessened the talent and coaching disparities between those two levels. I imagine that, 20 years ago, football coaches at a school like Montana were barely making ends meet, while today, a lot of the assistants are probably making six figures or close to it. And of course these games are the biggest of the season (at least until the playoffs) for the better FCS teams.

Montana and NIU, sure. They're FCS powers and I'm never surprised when they can play with a P5 team, especially early in the year before their roster depth is challenged. App State was far from the worst team on our schedule the year of the horror.

Missouri State, though...that's a shocker. They haven't had a winning record since 2009; two years ago they were 1-10 and the only win was in OT over a 1-11 team. Tulane beat them 58-6 in their FBS trip.

Or East Tennessee. They'd dropped football altogether for a decade, they've only made the FCS playoffs one time, 25 years ago. Their last game two years ago they lost at Vandy 38-0; the year before they lost at Tennessee 59-3.

I guess Jedd's got some work to do. He has to get it across to his QB not to throw the fly pattern pass when the safety is backing up and giving double coverage on the WR doing the fly. QB has to look where the safety is. Football 101.
