NV the new NJ?

Submitted by Bluestreak on

Looks like we have a lot of offers out in Nevada this year.

Lots of D-1 talent in this years Bishop Gorman HS class

QB Dorian Thompson Robinson

OLB Palaie Gaoteote

TE Brevin Jordan

RB Kirby Bennett

All have Michigan offers - (though only DTR is trending Blue).

Could this be a new pipeline?

That would be nice. BG has been a power house for a while now, talent isn't new. They sent guys to OSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma last year. Their coach from two years ago, Sanchez, was hired as UNLV's head coach, now his brother is the BG coach. Would be incredible but incredibly hard to make it a true pipeline.

Doubtful, Bishop Gorman is being hit up by every power program, it's going to be hard for any school to lock it down and certainly will be hard for a school halfway across the country to do so. Also the state of high school ball in the rest of the state ain't exactly good and I say this as a native Nevadan.

Ohio State owned Bishop Gorman this past recruiting cycle and have the upper hand (based on ballz and such) on most of the rop Nevada kids again this time around. We should be happy to just get the QB.

2 of the top 8 doesn't qualify as "owning."  They got the #2 and #4 rated recruits in the state but missed out on the BG  players rated #1, 3, 6, 9 and 10.

Edit to note that OSU actively pursued the top recruit, WR Tyjon Lindsey, who was committed to OSU before flipping to Nebraska. They also went after #3 hard, S Bubba Bolden, who committed to USC. OSU didn't offer the 5th 4* from BG. He's the #21 CB and they already had 2 5* and 3 other 4* CBs (although he is rated higher than the other 4*.)

IMG takes guys from all over. The guys at IMG are primarily juniors and seniors that have already gotten heavily recruited, but it's not like you can just make it a pipeline. In two years the IMG roster is going to look completely different. It's not like you can make ties in the community.

LV has casinos, Atlantic City has casinos. Both LV and NJ fetishize women with really, really big hair. Both deal with a legacy of toxic waste. Both are covered by deserts. Wait...scratch the last one.

Wouldn't we need to get a kid out of Nevada first before we call it a pipeline?  Who was the last player we took out of Nevada?  I'm coming up blank, and i've been following recruiting for a long time.

No one seemed to know if he was on scholarship. That was a time when teams didn't offer scholarships to long snappers. I think it came out that Carr offered him a one year scholarship (something the Big Ten forbids today), but it was unclear whether he kept it. He may have been an early blueshirt. Didn't sign an LOI, just showed up in the fall.

Yeah man, it's all ours.  Oh wait...

While most people watching last night's game between Las Vegas, Nevada, Bishop Gorman and Cedar Hill, Texas, were enamored by the play of Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell — and rightfully so — the defense was as equally impressive. Anchored by another 2017 pledge in Haskell Garrett, the Gaels held the Longhorns offense to only eight first downs.

Add wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey — who committed to Ohio State last week but was sidelined on Saturday evening with an injury to his shoulder — to the mix, and the Buckeyes seem to be building a pipeline to the Mojave Desert.

If the trend were to continue into the following recruiting cycle, another name to pay attention to is Palaie Gaoteote, whom Ohio State offered back in March. The linebacker was arguably the most dominant player on the field last night.  One of 17 offers for the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder, Ohio State has been tabbed as the leader the top overall player in the state of Nevada in the Class of 2018 by Crystal Ball prognostications.

With so many new faces, Bishop Gorman High football coach Tony Sanchez last year started documenting the coach visits on his computer calendar. Last May, coaches representing 54 different schools made visits.

Meyer has been killing it recruiting Texas. Every year it seems like OSU is getting the top kids from Texas.

That's what happens when Mack Brown starts resting on his laurels and allows that program to descend into mediocrity, and then when Charlie Strong takes what Brown left over and runs it further into the ground. UT is just not an "it" program anymore. An argument can be made that it is onlythe 3rd or 4th best program in its own state right now.

Now, if Herman can start turning the program around, start beating Oklahoma, and make playoff pushes like he's capable of doing, that pipeline to OSU gets shut down quick.
