Note re:Graham's physical improvement with Barwis
I saw this at the end of the mgo.licio.us linked article on the sidebar. The reporter, Ryan Autullo, asks specifically about Graham's conditioning improvement in two years under Barwis. The response was that:
weight dropped 315 to 265
bench increased 315 to 495
power clean increased 225 to 445
Holy buckets! That is like the difference between some kid's numbers in HS and where he ends up after college. It is also the difference between a first round guy and a late round pick.

I'm pretty sure two years with Barwis would have me benching 495 as well ...
/sarcasm
and I would dump the skirt and high heels.
mgo.licio.us (as you mentioned) and in a board posting today.

Are you adding anything at all here ?
Scroll down five threads and you'll see we've already been discussing this.
harsh, there is only one sarcastic comment about BG's improvements (that i saw). maybe the OP wanted to start more of a discussion?
I think we have the best strength and conditioning coach out there by far. That improvement is just ridiculous.
SIGN UP!!!!
So does this show Lloyd Carr's program was bad? I've heard that before, but never really believed it. What do you guys think? Was Carr's strength program really that far behind Barwis'?
First of all, he was only a freshman/sophomore when Carr was here.
Second, he let himself get fat enough that he was playing DT as a freshman.
I think Barwis runs a better program than Gittleson, but that doesn't account for the entire difference between a young Graham and an older Graham.
that a determined young man is likely to make from age 20 to age 22 (or, more specifically, from year 2 of college weight program to year 4). Still, though, I don't imagine Graham would have this good of numbers under the old system. Powerclean impresses me more than bench.
Brandon Graham has never been 315lbs he was around 250 as a freshmen
He's admitted himself that he was nearing 300 lbs. I think 315 might be an overstatement, but he was WELL over 250 as a freshman. He was so big that they played him at DT that year.
He was 250 lbs and played OLB/DE coming out of high school there is no way he but on 65lbs and was 315lbs. His freshmen year he did play some DT but not because he was 300 lbs Michigan had him listed at 274 lbs his Freshmen year and 270 lbs his Sophomore year ( mgoblue.com). Barwis no doubt made him stronger, faster ect but he did not cut that much weight.
I said he was "well over 250" and they "played him at DT because he was so big."
Your "facts" tell me that he was 274 (which is well over 250) and that he indeed played DT.
So...uhhh...I agree? You basically just regurgitated what I already said.
274 lbs is not big for a DT and with Brawis he played between 270-263 so he dropped 7 lbs not 50+. With your vague statement of him being "well over 250" makes 315 lbs seems more credible. The Fact is 315 is not even close to a weight he has ever played at. You saying "Not True" he played DT gives people the impression of a guy around 300lbs which is closer to what the original post said. I know he had spot duty in a few games at DT. My point is has never been DT size. He played there more for ability and game situation NOT his size.
Grahams Weight
Fr 274 DE
So 270 DE
Jr 270 DE With Barwis
Sr 263 DE
7 pound difference

This is EXACTLY what I said in my post. Reading is fundamental.
"He's admitted himself that he was nearing 300 lbs. I think 315 might be an overstatement, but he was WELL over 250 as a freshman."
Did you see in there where I said that he was never 315 and that he wasn't even 300? Weird, huh?
FrankLUCAS beat me to it... I have disbelief about BG ever weighing 315 lbs. He didn't appear to have quite the frame for that without the ginormous belly of a 35 yr old.
Nearly doubling in the powerclean is amazing, moreso than the bench press since it is more of a full-body move and requires both balance and power. You figured that given enough time, Barwis could turn even elite athletes into better players, but Graham was probably the first to really showcase these improvements.
