Also, a quick read and predictions on the B10 tournament that starts tonight here. Writers split on prediction with one taking Michigan and the other going with FYS.
Johnny Gaudreau averaged 2.00 PPG last year. The other Hobey finalists didn't even bother writing speeches.
Shit, the three forwards on Michigan's first line that season should have been 3 of the 10 finalists. How they went to the Frozen Four and just completely shat the bed was completely beyond comprehension. What a team...
That was a national championship winning team if it was done Stanley Cup playoff style
I guess if you say something on TV enough times it becomes true.
What Hyman really needs is the team to pull it out in the B1G tournament, get to the tournament, and have at least one really solid game during the regionals and just hope like hell Eichel doesn't match it. The Hobey is this bizarre mix of the regular season and then "what have/haven't you done for me lately" during the NCAA regionals.
See: TJ Hensick, 2007. Fuck that ECAC official...
I'm sure Hyman could care less about this especially if they can't even make the NCAA Tournament.
You really think he doesn't care about being named one of the top ten players in the game? Really?
See, there's a difference between being named a finalist weeks before presentation and winning the thing.
I don't think being named a finalist will move the needle for him if the team misses the tournament *again*.
Oh come on.
You are too young for corporate buzzspeak.
I'd imagine he'll be final three but lose to Eichel. It's Larkin's to lose next year though, assuming Eichel is in the NHL.
I don't think there's anything Hyman could do to make it up other than score 3 goals a game all the way up to the Frozen Four. Eichel was the preseason favorite and then was the best player in the country all season long. He'll win, and rightfully so.
Hyman probably could've won in other years
At least he's being recognized for his great season given how mediocre the team has been. Hopefully he can make a late, strong case by leading them to the playoffs.
Second in the country in points and assists; one of only three players in Division I with more than 1.5 points per game; runner-up for both the Three Stars Award and as best defensive forward in his conference – yet Boston University’s senior assistant captain Evan Rodrigues is NOT among the ten Hobey Baker Award finalists. Unless there's a new rule that limits Hobey Baker Award finalists to one per team, leaving Rodrigues off that list doesn't make much sense.
