NIT Rooting Interests Thread
Obviously all of these games are very important for Michigan's NIT hopes, but 3 NCAA bids will be up for grabs tonight.
Here's the slate. 3 set to tip off now.
Conf. | Match up | Time/Network |
CAA Champ. | 1 William & Mary vs. 3 Northeastern | LOST 72-61 |
SoCon Champ. | 1 Wofford vs. 10 Furman | WON 67-64 |
Summit Semis | 1 S. Dakota St. vs. 5 S. Dakota | WON 78-65 |
MAAC Champ. | 1 Iona vs. 3 Manhattan | LOST |
We need the 1 seeds to win, obviously.
Furman is 11-21. They upset 3 seed Mercer to get to the SoCon Tournament Championship.
Pretty incredible run they have had. Let's hope it ends tonight.
There are 29 guaranteed NIT bids left. Anytime a 1 seed in these mid-majors tournaments lose, another NIT bid disappears.

Michigan is winning the B1G tourney. We give zero fucks about the NIT.
This year is this year.
I don't give a fuck about Mrs. Mary Iona Wofford when I can root for my own exciting and young team. They believe. So do I.
GO BLUE!!!!

You were probably one of the people who were nowhere to be found when this program was going 10-22 just 7 years ago but were all gung-ho about watching them in the NCAA Tournament recently, weren't you?

Cool. You literally just said you don't care about the team, so.....why post in this thread?

I keep on saying that, but no one believes me. I think we can beat Illinois, upset Wiscy, catching them sleeping. Also we can beat Purdue and Mayland. We almost beat both on the road this year
I doubt all four of the 1 seeds will win, that never seems to happen in these tournaments. Manhattan has been good the last couple years, and gave Louisville all it could handle in the tournament last year. My bet is that they get the W here.
Ultimately, I don't think it makes a huge difference one way or the other if they make the NIT. I can envision a circumstance in which Michigan beats Wisconsin in the tournament, especially if Dawkins has another big game.
Beating Wisky would be a Herculean task, but I'm glad for your optimism.
I think the only people watching these games have a gambling problem.
Seriously, if we don't beat Illinois this is moot and I think it is a toss up game.
That's not quite true.
If there aren't a large number of NIT auto-bids, Michigan can still get into the NIT. Right now they're projected as a 6 seed with 4 auto bids in. DRatings is assuming W&M will lose.
That can also change. Murray State can still get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with their 27-9 record.
W&M down 36-26 at half.
Root for W&M because we've never been to the Big Dance, one of 5 original D1 teams. It'd be a huge accomplishment for this program and a milestone in CBB history.
Wofford and Furman tied at 36-36 at halftime.
South Dakota State flying high against their rivals from Vermillion, up 43-23 with under 3 to play before half.
44-25 Jackrabbits at half.
51-25 South Dakota State
W&M down 45-35
Wofford on a run, up 52-47
Looks like DRatings knew it was coming. Northeastern up almost 20 on W&M.
Why wouldn't any Michigan fan? It's a chance to win a championship.
Damn the consequences - go Furman!!!
WOFFORD WINS!!!
67-64! The Terriers receive the NCAA auto-bid.
I was watching while playing bar trivia, so I looked up and with like 4 mins to go, William & Mary was down more than 20. Then I looked up and with 36 seconds to go, they were only down 6. They didn't pull off an amazing comeback, but what the hell happened?
Same here. I saw it on the ticket but it was too little too late.
W&M was obviously gassed from going 2OTs yesterday. Sigh.
Ignore
Iona-Manhattan.
A rivalry game for an NCAA Tournament bid featuring one of the most high scoring teams in the nation in Iona.
Also: South Dakota State blows out South Dakota 78-65 to advance to the Summit League Tournament Championship tomorrow at 8pm on ESPN2 against either 2 North Dakota State or 3 Oral Roberts.
Double tech called.

Would probably help SOS but an NIT bid would be lost because CMU is the 1 seed in the MAC Tournament.

Double tech and an additional flagarent foul to Iona's star player AJ English for contact to the head in a scrum. Iona down 12 with 5:16 in the first half.
Both teams qualify for a bonus and Iona in the double bonus. Refs taking every attempt to blow the whistle.
Iona erases a double-digit deficit to trail by 2 two at half. Down 39-37.
Do any of these teams have a shot at an at-large bid?
Iona blows it.
