I 100% agree, but I’m skeptical that all (any?) of the income from cash businesses like autograph sales will be declared.
Being announced so publicly and the fact that it's the 1st big name player to take advantage of the new rule, I think this will be more above board than any NIL situation.
Which makes me more nervous for these kids. You think a Tennessee fan won't rat out a Bama DL star to the IRS? Or that it happens in the B1G? There's a huge risk of them becoming even bigger pawns for "fans", with far dire personal consequences to which the NCAA may say "wow, don't you wish you didn't have to deal with the IRS?".
I am 100% on board with the players getting compensated -- some will never have access to big dollars and some may have career ending injuries before getting the chance -- but there's far more to this than letting someone FINALLY make some money signing autographs or doing local used car ads.
The current structure is the perfect setup for the SEC.
Truly setup the boosters with an easy path to recruits.

I think in Iowa, corn as currency is easy to exchange for fiat.

I don't get all the tax comments like that is some sort of groundbreaking thing. Would you rather make $0 and pay $0 in taxes or make a couple hundred and pay a couple tens in taxes? Seems like an easy choice and one that almost literally every employed person makes every year with no major issues.
