Nike + U of M on WSJ.com

Submitted by East German Judge on

While we have had a rough last 7 years on the gridiron, the front page of the online version of the Wall Street Journal does have a story on us.  A link to the story:

So the re-marriage of Michigan & Nike is relevant to the global mainstream business media and not just on MGoBlog.  I wonder when was the last time msu was on the front page of the Wall Street Journal?

BTW, Starbucks is raising prices!

[Mods, feel free to delete is this has already been mentioned in the various threads.]

With the pace news moves at and the bar being significantly lowered for what constitutes news, I wouldn't be quick to beat my chest over a volume of articles that supposedly illustrate our "relevance." The internet is filled with junk, even within the websites of established media.

Thx Judge. Crazy, but all my WSJ reading lately has been about Greece. No way I would have caught this article unless you'd posted it.

On Forbes:

"The University of Michigan football program is one of the most heralded in the country. Winners of 11 national titles in its 136-year history and with a shiny new head coach in Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines are a cash cow. It’s that simple. [...] Back in August of 2014, the Collegiate Licensing Company ranked Michigan No. 3 overall in terms of merchandise sales around the nation. That’s how significant this reported deal is."

I think mentioning the Nike deal on the front page of wsj is intended to demonstrate its perspective and significance. The OP was well intended but poorly executed by referencing MSU. It's probably more embarrassing for me to spend time debating OPs.

I couldn't find it on the front page or the business section. It did come up on a web search for the words Nike and Michigan which I guess makes it relevant but maybe not that relevant or worthy of starting yet another apparel thread.

I heard it was prominently mentioned in WD's SuperGuide so there is that.
