Nike Camp in Illinois

Apparently Devin Gardner looked great out there. Looks a lot more relaxed and improved dramatically. He was one of the top QB's there. Austin White won the Running back award with his quick feet and catching ability. Kyle Prater I believe won the reciever award. Spoke a lot about Devin in his video interview. Prater and Gardner hit it off well at the BBQ as well. Looks great for us. Only negative I see is Praters HS quarterback is an Illinois committ. Prater is from Illinois.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to get Prater even though we are saturated in WR commits.

earlier today, just to get a feel for what was going on in that recruiting cycle. Jordan Barnes and DeWayne Peace both "committed" that week. There was a lot of talk about Kevin Newsome and the strength of his commitment. Quentin Washington "dropped us" in a linked article. Craig Roh and Anthony LaLota were still figuring things out. Taylor Lewan was not on the radar yet. Cameron Gordon had not yet received an offer from Michigan. Tate was listing New Mexico as one of his top schools. The point? That was two months further along in the recruiting cycle. The first three guys I mentioned, obviously, went elsewhere. Caleb Lavey (OSU) and Brennan Clay (Oklahoma) have "surprised" us all in the past few weeks. Now we're trying to read the tea leaves on Kyle Prater. Yeah, these guys are good. Yeah, we want them. But you can make these posts every week for months and you're just going to drive yourself crazy trying to predict where the kids are going. FWIW, I'll give you another negative sign about Prater - he laminated his Oklahoma offer. Who laminates stuff anymore, other than your second grade English teacher?

But, we all know committs don't mean anything. Just like relationships, break up and go seperate ways. Its still 7-8 months til they sign? What I know is, plaeyrs go where they feel comfortable. Pryor (suppoosely) went to tUOS because he had people swayin him to tUOS. To me, Gardner is trying to get Prater to go to Michigan. You go where your "boys" also go.

Imagine playing a pickup game with kids in your neighborhood as a child. There is the football team the"mustangs" or the "Warlocks",(for instance). If the guy you get along with the most goes to the "warlocks", you most likely will too.

i'm actually speechless but on a related note regarding laminating: I was incorrect in what I wrote above. (link below) The Oklahoma letter was #29 that he received before his mother laminated it to use as a placemat or a place for the dog to poop. I am sure that the Michigan letter is currently at the frame shop. on a related but OT note, at the University of North Carolina Basketball museum (a 3 million dollar facility), you would be surprised to know that they have a shrine to Michael Jordan. In a glass case, they have two letters side-by-side: the UNC offer letter from Dean Smith and a Duke letter from Coach K in which he wishes "Mike" well in his future endeavors. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/the_inside_scoop/2009/04/…

The great news about us discussing our current class, is that they'll all be there in the end. Most of these kids don't have any offers from good schools, so I can't see them going anywhere else. When your offer is between Toledo and Michigan, I don't see you decommitting.

But do we agree that Coach Rod would not offer the #1 outright to a recruit? We have previously discussed that the only way it gets assigned is through on-field acheivements

seems heavily involved. I wish they had a system like selecting the Pope where all of the former accomplished receivers (Braylon, Avant, Terrell, Breaston, AC, Jokish, Manningham, Hayes, etc.) met in seclusion to decide who, if anyone, is worthty of #1. They could use colored smoke to signal that they have reached a decision.

I've read a couple of comments on MGoBlog about White that allude to some sort of attitudinal problems with the kid. Anybody know what they're based on?

i have a feeling some of these WRs that we have right now will not be committed to us come signing day. I just cant see RR sticking with 5-6 WRs unless some of them are multi dimensional and can play other positions. I really think RR is just loading the class up with "guaranteed numebers" so that we secure depth with this class; considering the DT position where we are so thin and maybe LB or CB. I still feel 2-3 of the kids that are committed to us wont end up signing with us either because we find better players at their position or they are offered PT for a smaller or less football dominant school like a toledo; considering scouting reports on these guys, they are looking to be riding the bench most of their careers at UM anyway. Of course there are diamonds in the rough but this is going strictly on rivals and scouts analysis of these players.

and you have to remember that it takes that many just to fill a 2 deep chart in our base offense. J. Robinson and DJ Williamson are both capable of playing on either side of ball and do so in HS. I believe Robinson is actually considered a better safety by some. Marvin, DJ, Drake, AND Dileo by all accounts are huge Michigan fans and Jackson's dad is the RB coach so I don't see any of them going anywhere else. Don't be surprised if you see some 4 wides this year now that the QB will actually be able to hit the broad side of a barn.
