Freely admit I didn't follow the Jags much at all, but every time I watched highlights of their games (probably should be categorized as lowlights) he was always around. And I mean that in a relatively good way. Long runs by Derrick Henry or busts by the Jags DL and LBs were usually covered up by him, albeit 45 yards downfield. Didn't realize he was as fast as he showed in those clips. Not like the Jags have a gluttony of talent at the Safety position but who knows.

Decent chance Schofield ends up back on the Ravens.  He’s not eligible to go on waivers so the there might have been a handshake type of deal to bring him back as a free agent on a cheaper contract.

Wilson being cut is a pretty big surprise. He had been a starting safety for them.

Ben mason also got cut from the ravens and bredeson was traded which led to a ravens beat reporter specifically calling out to stop drafting Michigan players since clearly the brotherly inside information isn’t working out

On a different note it’s likely mason winds up on the ravens practice squad while they stash him for a year to be a Ricard replacement since they don’t want to carry two fullbacks. Schofield could also be a cut and re-sign cheaper candidate after a couple of ir moves get made tomorrow

Taco release comes as a bit of a surprise to me. I know he had some injuries and wasn't great against the run, but I figured pass rush was always going to keep him on a roster (though that could still happen).

Thought I'd list QBs on rosters from Big Ten schools (only the last college they attended).

Starters

Tampa Bay - Goat, Michigan (6th round, 2000), 2 years remaining on contract, $25.0m average per year.

Minnesota - Kirk Cousins, MSU (4th round, 2012), 2 years, $33.0m.

Seattle - Russell Wilson, Wisconsin (3rd round, 2012), 3 years, $35.0m. Almost locked in his bust in Canton already, and he's got quite a few years left in him.

Backups

Chicago - Justin Fields, OSU (1st round (11), 2021), 5 years, $4.7m. - weird QB room - Fields will undoubtedly start soon, but they kept both Andy Dalton and Nick Foles.

Detroit - David Blough, Purdue (undrafted, 2019), 1 year, $1.5m - third on the depth chart, behind Tim Boyle (also undrafted) and Jared Goff.

Jacksonville - C.J. Beathard, Iowa (3rd round, 2017), 2 years, $2.5m. Sole backup to Trevor Lawrence.

Kansas City - Chad Henne, Michigan (2nd round, 2008), 1 year, $3.25m. Sole backup to Patrick Mahomes.

Pittsburgh - Dwayne Haskins, OSU (1st round (15), 2019), 1 year, $850k. Third on depth chart with a fourth QB on IR. The Steelers always seem to have more seats in the QB room than anyone else. Perhaps Ben likes an audience.

Recently Released

Under the rules, which changed a lot last season and have been further modified for COVID, teams can have up to 16 practice squad players, including several veterans. In addition, two players each week can be designated as eligible for the roster (bringing that total to 55). This rule is in part to encourage teams to keep at least three (and often four) QBs around, to avoid what happened to Denver last season, when the entire QB room was sick one week.

These QBs were recently connected to teams and could well resurface on practice squads.

Baltimore - Trace McSorley, PSU (6th round, 2019)

Minnesota - Nate Stanley, Iowa (7th round, 2020)

New England - Brian Hoyer, MSU (undrafted, 2009) - the Patriots have only one QB on the 53, something I've never seen before (Mac Jones, the 15th pick this year). Jarrett Stidham is on reserve with an injury. Hoyer has been connected to the Patriots for a long time and will likely be re-signed and activated for their opener this weekend unless there's some unofficial agreement with Cam Newton.

New Orleans - Trevor Siemian, Northwestern (7th round, 2015)

New York Giants - Clayton Thorson, Northwestern (5th round, 2019).

New York Giants - Brian Lewerke, MSU (undrafted, 2020)

San Francisco - Nate Sudfield, Indiana (6th round, 2016)

Not in the Current Pool

QBs recently out there, but either retired or don't have a strong current connection with any team.

Drew Brees, Purdue (2nd round, 2001) - obviously retired.

Drew Stanton, MSU (2nd round, 2007)

Jake Rudock, Michigan (6th round, 2016)

Cardale Jones, OSU (4th round, 2016)

Shea Patterson, Michigan (undrafted, 2020)

Peyton Ramsey, Northwestern (undrafted, 2021). Had a short look with Carolina.

Players receive a per-diem for workouts and training camp. It ranges from around $250 to around $400. They also receive meal money, housing, and reasonable travel costs.

Salary, which used to be paid in 17 installments during the regular season, can now be spread out to 34 weeks and half-payments. But I think that a player ultimately earns 1/17th of his salary for every week he's on the 53-man roster and that's entirely separate from workout money.

Many contracts include workout period bonuses and roster bonuses if a player is on the roster at certain times. But that's not for the 40-50 guys who are unlikely to stick.
