NFL and CFB Playoff, Friday Adult Beverage, and Big Storm Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on January 10th, 2020 at 8:06 PM

Mates,

The divisional round of the NFL playoffs start tomorrow and then Sunday, and finally the CFB finals will happen Monday night.   The NFL lines are pretty big, and the home team is favored in each one.  They look like this:

Saturday       Pts

49ers              7             Vikings

Ravens          10            Tennessee

Sunday

KC                 10            Houston

Packers          4.5          Seattle

Monday's CFB final has this

Clemson         4.5          LSU

Beyond that, there is a pretty big storm about to start here in Michigan.  For you downstate types you'll get drenched, but hopefully for us northerners we'll get a foot of snow.  About time, that is what winter is for.  Lastly, time to put some venison on the grill, and most likely a little red pop in the cup.

So your 3 questions are these:

1.  Who do you have in the NFL?

2.  Who are you picking to win on Monday, Clemson or LSU?

3.   What, pray tell, is in your glass this evening?

I hope you are well and stay safe if the weather really gets crummy where you are.

yes, walking merlin a ton and sticking to the diet.  trying to build a little muscle now.  the fitbit and app really help.  when i was really dropping weight  i used to do at least 12500 steps a day and now just out of habit i get between 10-11000 every day.

outstanding.  now teach merlin how to bird hunt and you'll really get some walking in chasing various game birds for hours and hours.  go north up the 395 to the inyo and carson valleys.  go east to the desert.  there is some fine hunting within a few hours of you and away from the maddening crowds of socal.  merlin will thank you, too.  its what he was bred to do.

Great Friday night post XM.

No clue about the NFL, the next down I watch will be the first one of the season.  I will take the Vikings to win it all because I QBd my pee wee football team called the Vikings to a respectable 4-4 campaign.

LSU 37-Clemson 27.

Coca Cola classic.  Fresh cold glass, plenty of ice.

About to start a quick 9 before dinner in Kauai Hawaii.  Sipping some corralejo reposado and a beer brewed by Honolulu beer works called pussy grabs back.

I don’t think the ravens can be beat.  BUT.  If Derrick Henry goes off this would be the way they could lose.

other games I’ll take the Vikings over the 49ers.  KC over Houston.  And the Seahawks over Green Bay because F Aaron Rodgers.

LSU by more than 2 scores.  Not going to be close.

Seattle over Packers

Seattle over Vikings

KC over Seattle

LSU over Clemson

Sadly, we're just going to get very wet down here in A2. Shoveling snow is a great cardiovascular workout, and there hasn't been squat since the big dumping in November. But I'd rather have rain than ice because electricity is pretty handy at times.

Man ... I miss my old house that had a big ass fireplace ... the whole back wall of the house was brick and once you got a good fire going for a day or so you could damn near keep the whole house warm with the radiant heat coming off that wall.  Now I just have to wait for decent weather and sit out back by the fire pit

Quite the weather day out here on the Kansas prairie. We were awaken around 5 by thunder and brief crash of hail-and wind gust over 40mph. A driving rain lasted for about an hour then turned into periods of sleet, snow, freezing rain...back and forth and allover the place. We came out the back side of it all just a bit ago...so about 14 hours worth-though the winds continue. Soon it will be y'alls' turn. Enjoy.

The good news is that the inclement weather made me stay inside and bake and cook and whatever. Our 8 hens are laying about 6 eggs a day-there's a heat lamp on 24-7 in their coop to keep the water thawed...with the side benefit of also increasing egg production. We have extra eggs so sadly I must make angel food cake and noodles to keep up-ha! I also made bread and biscuits. I had gathered about a bushel of black walnuts from our property and still had/have a couple gallons to crack. So after the baking and noodle making I set up near our wood stove and cracked walnuts. So the house is cleaner, we have lots to eat, the dishes, laundry and ironing is done...the electricity has stayed on...and my wife's office closed early...life is good.

Edit: I have no preferences of football winners...though I may prefer that both Clemson and LSU lose.

We live about 35 miles straight north of Wichita. We all find beauty by way of our individual definitions. There are spots of beauty here. The state color here is surely brown-enough said.

I like Mahomes-one helluva talent. We are not natives-being in Kansas would be more of a negative for me :)

+1.  I've driven across Kansas probably 25 times in my life - I've varied the routes just so it's not always I-70.  I always tell people it's a pretty state: that gets me strange looks but it is true.

Northern Kansas, unless it's very close to the Colorado border, I always see a fair amount of green.  Even in the cold season there's some green.  And then if it is late summer and Sunflower season, the mix of green and yellow is gorgeous.

Southern Kansas is more brown, but the tallgrass on the Flint Hills east of Wichita is beautiful.

You probably know this - but for those who don't: the Sand Hills in Nebraska are another underrated gem of America.

We do enjoy the Flint Hills. The 11,000 acre Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, about 50 miles NE of us, is a worthwhile visit. We do 5-10 mile hikes there-several times a month. I  will say it is one thing to drive through...it is a very different thing to live in the middle of it day after day. The oppressive heat and incessant wind gets more than wearing. And here, the prevalence of depression among the natives testifies to these realities.

On several occasions when I was in my 40s I took solo trips out to Colorado to cram as much hiking up in the Rockies as I could over the course of a short week, and I normally drove I-70.

I always drove from A2 to western Kansas in one stretch of driving, and one summer I stopped for sleep in my car at the interstate rest stop just west of Colby. At 5:30 am I awoke to a dense fog that had settled over everything while I was snoring.

It wasn't the kind of fog that accompanies cloudy weather, though—above it the skies were clear, and the rising sun imparted a soft glow to everything that was really kind of unearthly.

The stretch of highway between that rest stop and Goodland goes through gently rolling range- and farm land that's almost completely empty of buildings and other obvious signs of human civilization, and the fog made the visual horizon even closer. It was very quiet with few cars on the highway, and the experience of traveling through that bit of Kansas in those conditions was one of the most memorable driving experiences I've ever had.

Everyone wish me and the power at my house luck in ruralish Alabama. Tornadoes supposedly coming. Family is out of town, have a weekend of football and lack of sobriety planned.
