Recruiting is all about aesthetics. And rubbing it in your rivals(no pun) faces. For instance, Brett Gallimore sucked more dick than any Michigan commit ever. HOWEVA, he was a top 100 player on rivals - which allowed me to brag about him for a couple years before it was time to accept that he sucked. Recruiting is a numbers game. I want to see everyone with a 4-star and a 6.0 next to their name. I don't give a shit if they do nothing at Michigan - it's all about what we think before they play a down.

Most of the player's tag-lines are descriptions with stats, then this for #91. "The top prospect in Tennessee sports a 3.8 GPA."

He's a smart kid he could have and should have done better than FSU. FSU=Joke of an educational institution And yes I am still bitter that he chose FSU for it's great academics over such other schools as Michigan and Florida. If he had picked Florida it wouldn't be a big deal but it's like the kid being the #1 recruit in the country saying "I want to go to the NFL and be a big time player in College Football" and then settling on BGSU.

You're way off, FYI. At no point did he say "I intend on going to the highest ranked college in the NCAA according to US News & World Report." He wanted to go somewhere that would both challenge him academically and prepare him for the NFL. He is now a Rhodes Scholar and is projected to go in the first round of the NFL draft next year. Looks like the joke's on you.

And if you did a combination of the two Academics+athletics... FSU at that time was hardly at the top. FSU hasn't been a huge power in football for a while and academically is a (pardon my french) complete shithole. If he had gone to the "best of both worlds" school he would have gone to Florida top 15 program in football and top 40 school or Michigan Top 25 program in football and top 25 school. But no he chose to go to FSU which is a Top 25 program in football (at best now) and a bottom 25 school in the nation (as far as D-1 programs go) So yes I still do question his decision to go to FSU. Now if he really meant "I want to go to a good football school and a college that will not challenge me so that I can get sweet grades then yes he probably picked the best college. And how is the joke on me I know that he's a Rhodes Scholar and is going to Oxford (I think) and is delaying going to the NFL...

WolvinLA

Because you think his decision was poor, yet he accomplished exactly what he wanted to. Just because Florida is ranked in the top 40 (unconfirmed by me, FYI) doesn't mean that they are as good as FSU in terms of academics among athletes, or in his particular program. But goddamn don't you know everything? I'm calling bullshit on FSU being in the bottom 25 of all D1 football schools. For these purposes, I'll assume you meant FBS, since LOTS of FCS schools are ranked below FSU.

Here are FBS schools (certainly not exhaustive) ranked below FSU. Oklahoma Oregon South Carolina Tennessee BYU TCU Ohio University Kentucky Washington State Arizona State South Florida Colorado State Arkansas Utah Kansas State LSU Cincinnati Louisville Mississippi Miss St Oklahoma State Oregon State Temple Texas Tech West Virginia I stopped at 25, and I was about halfway through tier 3 out of 4 according to US News. I also skipped over nearly all the non-BCS schools.

FSU is #102 Alabama is #83 Auburn is #96 Thug U is #51 OSU (the worst school in the Big Ten(11) is #55) UGA is #58 And all of these schools provide better football and education than FSU... Wow... That was hard. If you really think that FSU is such a great school.... Well I'm sorry but there is no help for you because the school blows.

WolvinLA

Just to prove to you that you are either retarded or just really bad at reading lists, OSU is certainly not the lowest ranked school in the Big Ten (as much as we'd like to think so). 55 - OSU 61 - Minnesota 66(tie)- Purdue 66(tie)- Iowa 71(tie)- Indiana 71(tie)- Michigan State Ohio State is very much in the middle of the Big Ten, in fact they are the median school.

But everyone says that OSU is the worst school in the Big Ten and yes I did see that. I decided to put common perceptions of schools and also none of those schools are good at football. And is there really that much difference between the 55th and 71st... not really..

I know that most people here have Michigan degrees I wasn't trying to "lord" my Michigan degree as a sign of intellectual superiority. I was just trying to say "I'm not a fucking idiot". But no I'm on the same level as Bluefront and McFarlin I should go and play in traffic

bouje

So yeah when you guys went to personal attacks on me that's when I get pissed off. You have no idea about me, what my intelligence level is or what I do for a living. Just because I have an opinion on something doesn't mean that I should get castrated by the community like this.... This is ridiculous.

I believe you're referring to my post, and I never said that are retarded. I said that you are either retarded or bad at reading lists. You could have said "yeah, I must have read that list wrong" and you would have satisfied one of the criteria. Instead, you jumped right on the retarded option like you wanted it. I did not say you are retarded, nor did I say you are retarded AND bad at reading lists. My comment implied you were only one of the two. Example: If you said to me, WolvinLA, you are either retarded or brunette, I wouldn't be offended.

Do you really think that winning the Rhodes Scholarship is based merely on "getting sweet grades"?? You do realize what winning one of those entails, right?

dex

July 21st, 2009 at 3:47 PM ^

No. He doesn't. He really thinks that the Rhodes Scholarship people are only looking at his "sweet grades" and not reading his papers, doing personal interviews, etc. And that's why he is an idiot.

I don't have the link, but Rolle has said that Florida State actually sold him on their academics by coming up with a detailed plan specifically tailored to him.

July 21st, 2009 at 3:38 PM ^

Unless, of course, they actually mean it, like Rolle did, and go out and achieve exactly what they hope to, like Rolle did. No one is going to disagree with you that recruits are not always to be trusted, but Rolle is basically the worst example of that fact that you could use. William Campbell is a good one. Use him next time

For being FSU's first Rhode Scholar (and probably last). I'll say it again. FSU IS A SHITTY SCHOOL. Going there for Myron Rolle is like a Devin Gardner going to a school for the blind and deaf and trying out for the football team. He's an all-star comparatively just like Rolle is an all-star academically at FSU. It's a joke.

I thought you had to be an athlete to be considered... Edit: As per Wikipedia one of the four standards by which a candidate is judged is energy to use one's talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports. So I guess you don't have to be an athlete, I don't think Bill Clinton was, but it's probably a big help.
