New 2022 QB offer in Ohio

There's nothing really significant about this offer except . . . well . . . the sports landscape is pretty barren right now.

So for those of you longing for more activity in Ohio, Michigan offered Medina (OH) Medina quarterback Drew Allar. At 6'5" and 210 lbs., he's a 3-star, the #24 pro-style quarterback, and #513 overall. Iowa, Kentucky, and Penn State have already offered.

He's an interesting player. I don't like his arm angle on a lot of throws. In that respect, he reminds me of Ryan Mallett, but he doesn't have nearly the same arm strength. But then he's very creative with his arm angle at times, and it's pretty impressive some of the throws he makes under pressure, like Aaron Rodgers or Matt Stafford with the sidearm stuff.

I know that sounds contradictory, but the point is that I'm okay with sidearm stuff when it's absolutely necessary, but if you're just sitting clean in the pocket and decide to go all Dennis Eckersley . . . that's where issues arise.

He's got excellent pocket presence and displays really nice ability to sidestep the rush while still keeping his eyes downfield.

One thing about his delivery—he can get away with low-trajectory throws at the HS level since he's probably taller than many of the kids on defense he's facing, but at the P5 level he'll get a lot of those passes batted down at the LOS.

I don't really understand this line of thinking.
1. It doesn't make sense to recruit kids from Ohio simply for the sake of recruiting kids from Ohio.
Michigan, regardless of what some corners of the fanbase would like you to believe, is still an upper tier Big 10 program. #110 in the state is more suited for lower end MAC teams than they are for the B1G.

2. Michigan HAS been recruiting the state of Ohio.
2017 - 2021 recruiting class, Michigan has offered 83 kids from OH.
Same time frame, they've offered 78 from MI, 48 from NJ and 34 from PA. The bulk has been CA(129), FL(242), GA(168), TX(146). (all per 24/7sports recruiting page)

Criticism for not landing some of those recruits is valid, but they aren't neglecting the state.

It is late, and I'm just not interested enough at the moment, but it would be interesting to compare the talent level of the 83 kids vs the talent level of the kids recruited from those 4 major states.

The criticism is warranted when you realize that we didn't have a recruiter based in Ohio. I'm not saying they dropped the ball in Ohio, but they didn't really put any energy in the state after losing Al Washington to OSU. The question is, would they have been better off spending the time they spent in the NE, in Ohio instead. Is a 3 star from Ohio better than a 3 star for Connecticut, or Massachusetts. And if those hours would be paying off a little better now. It's not necessarily what you get, but the relationships you start to build and grow for future recruits.

Looking at the number of kids they have signed in Ohio, not the number of offers, is a better measuring stick.  It’s not recruiting OH just to recruit OH, it’s taking talent next door that we have ceded to KY, Cincy, MSU and others.  The best kids (with limited exception) are going to sign with OSU but there is no reason to have a class with 0 signees from OH.  Zero.

The original comment I replied to is "Honestly, it's just nice to see them going after anyone in Ohio."
which is in response to an offer going out.
Maybe it was hyperbolic, but the insinuation that Michigan isn't "going after" kids from Ohio is just not accurate.

Like I said, the criticism for not landing more of those kids is valid.

His foot work is stiff. His shoulder are too level. He starts his throwing motion at his shoulder. It should be extended behind him. Ideally you want to start your hips slightly before your arm hits 90 degrees and you throw with an arching motion. His arm never gets to 90 and he throws across his body, more like he's throwing a jab not a football. Because his hips follow his arm as opposed to vise versa there's not enough torque through through his core or follow through.

Other than that he looks pretty good.

I'm no expert but, watching the video, he looked like a pretty good passer. Puts enough air under his deep balls, can zing it across the middle when he needs to, and has a nice soft touch on shorter passes. His offer sheet isn't bad either. I wouldn't be upset with his commitment.

His ability to throw at any angle and moving in any direction reminds me of Mahomes. Obviously not saying he is at that level, but he turns broken plays into big gains and can extend the play until the coverage breaks.
Yes, please. Looks underrated to me.
