Need Help/Suggestions on Buying UM Football Tickets

Submitted by seanml11 on
I live down in Orlando, FL and am going to the MSU game this upcoming season in October. The only place that I have found tickets currently for sale is on Ebay. The other major online ticket brokers don't have any tickets available yet. I am hesitant on shelling out some serious dollars in February, on Ebay, for tickets that I will receive in August. Has anyone had success on Ebay? Any recommendations on what would be the best route? I just want to secure them now so that I can make airfare and hotel arrangements ASAP. Thanks for any help you can offer me!!!

I would highly recommend not buying the tickets in February on Ebay unless you're getting them at a steal of a deal (which I doubt you would be). I would just wait until closer to the end of the summer to even start looking. There are 110 thousand-ish tickets, you're bound to find what you need for sale from someone. -or- Just watch for when the Michigan Ticket Office puts up for sale the single game tickets and get ready to hit F5. I've had great success getting awesome seats to games this way, including tickets to last season's Notre Dame game (4 tickets, 10 yd line, row 20ish). For what it's worth, I much prefer something like Stubhub to Ebay when buying tickets.

There's not going to be many places with tickets right now because there is no supply. I'm a season ticket holder and renewals don't even go out for a few months. That is also when the alumni association sends out applications for their ticket packages. I agree that you shouldn't get anything right now unless its a steal. More will show up online during the summer.

I would say that is high at this point. I bought a single to the OSU game last year for $125 on stub hub. Granted it wasn't on the 40yd line. If both teams have good years that would be about right. I would think you could get some before the season for a couple hundred bucks a piece. Me just speculating. Good luck!

That's way too high. Like, Ohio State-Michigan 2006 high. You should be able to get a ticket in the 100s. Just wait until the season is closer, as I imagine there might not be many season ticket renewals (b/c of the MI economy and last season). Last year, the atheltic department was selling tickets to the PSU and OSU games b/c they weren't sold out.

there was tickets to even buy right now anyway? If there are I doubt it's a steal since there is no over-supply to drive down cost. I want to find tickets as well because some buddies at work have never been to a game and I want to see the new renovations. I'll be waiting until mid-summer and looking mostly on stub hub for tix with a quick look at ebay for any possible guys to haggle with.

Co-signed on Stubhub over Ebay. I got a set of (4) from them for the PSU game last year for $70 a pc. For what it's worth being this proactive in your fall plans for the game will end up being more harmful than helpful. I took a quick glance @ the going rate for tickets on stub-hub and the cheapest are $189 a pc on up to $300+. Yes, I know it’s the biggest game @ the big house this year, no matter the incoming record of both teams, but to be quite honest with 110K+ tickets out there just show up in the AM to tailgate and scalp a set. I’d put money on it you’ll find a pair for less than $189 a pc.

I second the comment on Craigs List. I haven't done it for Michigan games, but for other sporting events I've had good luck getting decent prices. I also agree that what you're looking at is high, at least right now. I'd still make your travel arrangements now, and wait for the tickets.

I don't think it includes Craigslist, but FanSnap will search ebay, StubHub, and several other ticket sales sites, and compile all of the options in one sortable list. It's very convenient

I had my season tickets when I lived in Philadelphia, so you'll be able to see that I don't take my own advice, but... Your decision really depends on how much risk you're willing to take. You can almost always find tickets the day of the game. MSU is a little harder, but there are tickets around. The key is being willing to walk away from the scalper. Even so, whenever you look at StubHub and eBay this early in the year, it is full of people that are trying to pay for their season tickets by landing one "whale" who is willing to pay up no matter the cost. Don't be that guy... At least wait for the prices to come down. So you're aware, invoices will go out to season ticket holders a few months from now. At that point, season ticket holders will know with 100% certainty exactly which tickets they have. Tickets are usually mailed the second week of August, if I'm not mistaken.
