NCAA Tournaments Open Thread
Earlier: NC State came back and beat a choking Notre Dame and UConn dominated Indiana in the Bridgeport region of the Women's Tournament.
Live: Louisville up 11 at the half against Tennessee. Winner plays the winner of our game.
Denver is absolutely dominating UMD but UMD bullshit March magic has it 1-1 still. Winner to Boston.
At 6: Houston and Villanova for the Final Four
At 630: Michigan and South Dakota women
Minnesota State and Notre Dame for a Frozen Four spot.
At 8:49: Duke and Arkansas for the Final Four
Vols close to within 5 at the end of three. We would prefer they win, dominated them on the road last year to make the Sweet Sixteen while Louisville beat us by 22 earlier this year.
Denver/UMD still tied at 1, second intermission.
As the 'enlightenedbum' mentioned, the Denver vs Minnesota-Duluth game is tied right now 1-1 after two periods. Televised on the U.
Third period has just begun; winner of this game faces the winner of tomorrow's Michigan vs Quinnipiac game next round in the Frozen Four.
UMD’s goalie, Ryan Fanti, has been red hot for weeks. Denver better on the ice, but UMD stealing games in the net. Not really enthralled with the idea of facing a nigh-unbeatable goalie if Michigan advances tomorrow.
Feel the same way even though we kicked their ass on their rink earlier in the year and Denver is obviously better. UMD is spooky.
Denver scores, 2-1 them 5 to go.
Denver wins 2-1.
We need to take care of business tomorrow in order to get a shot at Denver in the Frozen Four semifinals.
Louisville holds off some Tennessee runs pulls away late. If the women beat South Dakota we get a rematch with the Cardinals.
That was the game when nothing went right. Louisville shot well from three, Michigan didn't. Naz was stopped, no one could rebound, turnovers everywhere. It was 39-15 at the half. Not to get ahead of oneself, but it would be interesting to see if KBA could come up with a good plan. Louisville is strong, deep bench, balanced.
One of Louisville’s big scorers is sophomore Haley Van Lith who is from a small town in WA which is like 10 minutes from where I live. Everyone from around here is definitely pulling for Louisville
UMD eliminated on a ridiculous goal. Denver is going to try to skate with us if we win tomorrow which seems like good news.
It’s certainly our style. They have the highest scoring offense in the country, which is significant reason for concern.
I mean, there isn’t a team in the tournament (especially after all the 1 seeds beat the 4s) that isn’t a concern. It’s the tournament. The teams in it are good.
And Michigan is as dangerous as any of them.
Houston cannot score against Nova. It's 18-10 with 7:30 left.
Michigan is better than both of these teams. Damn missed bunnies!!
Trevor Janicke hurt for ND early. Not a lot of weight on his left leg. Penalty for Minn State on the play.
"Jeff Jackson wants us thinking offense"
Some unbelievably blatant bullshit.
Minnesota State gets a goal off an offensive zone faceoff. 1-0 Mavericks over the Irish.
Minny St just took a 1-0 lead vs ND with 16 seconds to go in period #1
Wrong thread
Is Villanova’s defense this good? Both Michigan and Houston can’t buy a bucket vs. these guys. Or are they just getting lucky bad shooting nights from their opposition?
Houston has 29 points halfway through the second half.
Jay Wright just seems like the type of guy who was born with a horseshoe up his ass and it’s not coming out,
Villanova is shooting 28 percent from the field and winning. What an awful game.
I remember they were an awful tournament team almost every year, basically auto-fade. Mostly turned that around since 2016
Or it just could be that he is the best college basketball coach-and has been for at least 15 years. His teams win for a reason.
Houston goes on a run! It’s a two point game. I’ve decided I don’t like Villanova. They’re like Wisconsin east.
Nova got away with an obvious double dribble to go up 6.
Villanova with telekinetic powers forcing missed bunnies
Villanova is not a good team.
Houston shoots 1-20 from three. Villanova shoots 28% from the field and wins. Nova is not a final four quality team.
Lol neither is Houston. They play disgusting basketball but everyone loves them because they "hustle" harder. So glad that garbage is out of the tourney and we can watch some real games
Nova hasn't exactly been easy on the eyes either. If we weren't going to win this regional, Arizona needed to.
(I've had my fill of seeing Gillespie's dad, too.)
Oh I would have much rather Arizona gotten through I am with you there. A Zona vs Kansas final four would've been great
This is setting up to be a rather unattractive Final Four.
The Frozen Four... if we make it... could be a track meet.
The video of the Villanova player blowing his Achilles’ tendon was a lot!
ND pulled goalie.
Irish bounced. Most dangerous team to us gone.
Fantastic!
ND bites the dust!!!
Everyone left in the tournament is dangerous
Yep. And this is a particularly chalky year; ND was the only non-top-8 seed to make the final 8. With 6 teams still playing there are 4 ones and 2 twos. No free meals here; if Michigan wins, it will be against a stacked field.

Yes, but stylistically ND is the worst matchup for us of the remaining teams. Second worst is the Mavericks themselves, but we beat them already so.
Not a fan of Duke, but FUCK THE SEC!
I can live with a pretend SEC school (Arkansas is a SWC school) making to the Final Four to eliminate the K is the greatest ever dribble we will hear all work if Dook moves on.

This is turning out to be a horrible tournament. Need an upset or two tomorrow real bad.
March 26th, 2022 at 11:40 PM ^
Yeah - it’s been a tourney with upsets but we could STILL end up with a Final Four of 3 blue bloods plus Villanova (not a blue blood but definitely modern day new blood).
Personally, no thanks to that. Boring.
1993 Final Four had 3 blue bloods too plus the Fab Five - that one was anything BUT boring but it was different then.

If you're talking hoops, it's epically bad, to the point that Villanova will be (if seeds hold) the least annoying remaining team. Them and a bunch of longtime cheaters whose fans believe are completely clean.

Are you referring to Kansas and UNC as the supposedly clean teams? Regardless, I'm fine rooting for them vs Duke.
And Villanova plays an awful style of basketball to make it even worse.

Arkansas not fouling down 9 with almost a minute left is bizarre. They just quit. Sure the odds were long, but you always foul down three possessions in that situation. I’d be livid if I were an Arkansas fan.

Nobody wants to see UNC, Duke, Kansas or Villanova win it... Let's go, St. Peter's! Spoil the UNC/Duke final four, spoil coach K's final run, spoil it all! evil laugh
