NCAA Softball Super Regionals Day 2 (#1 Florida has been eliminated!!!)

Submitted by SpikeFan2016 on

Michigan doesn't play until tomorrow, but if anyone doesn't have Memorial Day weekend plans and is bored at home, there is a lot of good softball to watch (all on ESPN Networks).

  • (Ongoing) #7 James Madison and #10 LSU are tied 2-2 in the top of the 6th inning on ESPNU in Game 1. If Michigan were to make it to the WCWS, our first game would be against the winner of this Super Regional.
  • 5PM ESPN2: #1 Florida vs. #16 Georgia (Game 2). Yesterday Georgia got an unprecedented win in the first game of the super regional by a score of 3-0 in Gainesville. Literally the first time in history a #1 seed has lost the first game of a Super Regional. That means Florida will need to beat Georgia twice in a double header to avoid elimination (second game would immediately follow the first on ESPNU). A Georgia win in either game would leave Michigan has the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
  • 5PM ESPNU #8 Florida State vs. Utah (Game 1)
  • 7PM ESPN2 #3 Oklahoma vs #14 Louisiana Lafayette (Game 2). Oklahoma won the first game by a score of 8-2.
  • 9PM ESPN2 #6 Alabama vs. #11 Washington (Game 1)

Would love to see Florida lose, obviously, and also rooting against the SEC in general because duh.

Update: James Madison defeats LSU by a score of 3-2 on a walk off single in the bottom of the 7th.

EVEN BIGGER UPDATE: Georgia defeats Florida in game two with a 3-2 score on a two out, two run walk off home run in the bottom of the 7th. #16 UGA is the first team to advance to the WCWS.

Another update: #8 Florida State defeats Utah 6-2 in Game 1.

Yet another update: #3 Oklahoma defeats ULL 7-6 in Game 2. Oklahoma advances to the WCWS.

Final Update: Alabama wins in an extra innings walk off against Washington by a score of 2-1.

Teams into WCWS:

  • #16 Georgia (opposite side of the bracket from Michigan) 3-0, 3-2 over Florida
  • #3 Oklahoma (same side as Michigan) 8-2, 7-6 over ULL

Teams Eliminated:

  • #1 Florida
  • #14 Louisiana-Lafayette

Series Scores:

  • #7 James Madison leads #10 LSU 1-0
  • #8 Florida State leads (unseeded) Utah 1-0
  • #6 Alabama leads #11 Washington 1-0

I think she should've been out, but I also think that Florida has gotten WAYYY more generous strike/ball calls throughout the game. In the inning that they scored their first runner should have been struck out looking but they called it a ball.

Doesn't diminish the win.

WOW.

NEVER seen something like that. They had 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th and it looked certain that Florida was going to force a game 3, but a hitter with a mere .245 batting average with the two run walk off!

Michigan is now the highest remaining seed in the NCAA tournament.

I mean, I'm happy that Florida lost but I would have rather us beat them in the Championship for payback from last year.

I was checking in periodically at the NCAA website, and figured this board would be delighted with this result.  I sure am.

It's extra sweet because the Gators and Dawg fanbases don't much like one another.  Good for the Dawgs, and hopefully good for the Wolverines!

Unbelievable. I turned it off thinking Florida would easily win after they took the lead. WOW!

Good.

Come on ladies!  GO BLUE!!!

What a GREAT way to start off the holdiay weekend, at work... getting slammed by everyone wanting to be treated before the weekend,  had 2 minute break to distract myself and saw this.... makes it all okay!

Holy Hell!!!  I like that UF is out of it, but it does bring some deflating because there's no chance to beat them in the final.  Yeah, that lasted about 5 seconds - SEE YA!!!

I hope they're ready to play tomorrow.  Missou apparently is quietly confident that they have something for UM.  I've heard a couple of people (radio talking heads) predict they would win and that Missou is looking around thinking, 'go ahead, under-estimate us'.  They've been playing really good the last half of the season.

Of course, maybe Missou is under-estimating UM, too...

Im sure our girls were watching this game and realize that from this pint forward its going to take our A+ game to win a  national title. There will be no more easy games..Its like a wake up call without having to lose to get it. Mizzou has been on a terror as of late after the end of season drama regarding their coach. They have circled the wagons and used it as motivation. Michigan needs to come out EARLY and often

After a few hours without any games due to a rain delay in Norman, two games are being played.

Alabama vs. Washington 0-0 Top 2nd on ESPN2

Oklahoma vs. ULL just starting on ESPNU

Wow, looked like that was going to be a huge inning for Bama. Bases loaded, no outs (and one run had already scored). But Huskies get 3 outs in a row (one with a throw out at home on an attempted tag on a fly out).

1-1 headed to the 5th inning.

Can't believe Florida is done. This is a huge opportunity. Ladies need to focus and get it done.
