Naz Hillmon Appreciation Thread

Michigan just lost a heart breaker by 2 @ OSU, but Naz was special. 50 points is the most in Michigan basketball history, men's or women's. She deserved a win for her effort.

Final 81-77, but yes, Naz is a special talent.

Michigan climbed back a couple times from huge deficits but in the end, turnovers, missed FTs and questionable decisions did them in.

Time to regroup like MBB did this week following a loss.

I think it was by 4, but Naz was a handful.  Nobody could make many shots to help today.  The real problem was making free throws.

GO NAZ and GO BLUE!

Truly amazing effort.  Ladies had a real chance despite being down double digits in the 4th.  They hung in there and went ahead late, but OSU was able to make a couple of big shots at the end.

Naz was simply awesome today - 50 points and 16 rebounds.  Wow.

Naz has been unbelievable this season, and it's a testament to her and the team, who headed into the 4th quarter down double digits on the road, but battled back to take the lead late in the game.

I'd usually look at turnovers as the biggest opportunity for improvement with this team, and there were some untimely ones, but today they definitely had a tough time beyond the arc shooting 10% (2 for 20) compared to OSU's 30+% and give credit to OSU for knocking down their free throws (22 of 25) when they needed them.

Naz has been such a great leader for this team, and as a student athlete representing so many others, that even in today's loss, she and this team showed resilience that they will continue to grow and learn from, and others would do well to do the same.

Go Blue, and thank you, Naz, Coach and the entire team for such a great start to the season!

i agree - there were a few glaring turnovers, but not too many.  it was really about shooting - did we make a three after the first quarter?

and - i have to look at the stats, but i think osu had only three baskets in the last...what?  12 minutes?  one was an open three by sheldon (who is really, really good, by the way), but one was an easy backdoor cut on amy dilk, fast asleep at the elbow, and the other was a transition layup that hailey totally gave up on.  they really played brilliant defense most of the game, but those were brutal and critical.

she was incredible.  we're watching a very, very special player.

MAN, did they miss leigha brown today.  AK got a couple of buckets when they needed them, but nobody else hit a shot all day.

Really?  I think it was the same as the previous inbound play that got 3 points from Naz in 3 seconds.  Inbound to Nolan in the corner.  If she is free she can go for 3, if not pass to Naz under the basket.  I think the pass just had a little too much on it for Nolan to bring it in.

Still a great effort.  Can't wait for Leigha Brown to be back in the game.  This is definitely a win with her playing for even a few minutes.

So, no Leigha, 10% from 3, lost by 4 on the road to a good team.

Yeah, LTFO when the game is in A2 assuming full strength.

Regroup and bounce back, ladies.  Go Blue!

A phantom time-out without the ball actually held up the deserved victory but her presence was felt everywhere today.  Classy team, coach, and all but the last play drawn up left a little bit to be desired!!!  Proud of you ladies, GO BLUE!!!

She is insane. Strength 100. Footwork 100. Motor 100. Attitude 100. Finishing ability 100. Free throws 92 lol.

between her and the track girl the girls are better athletes than the boys in A2

Remarkable game. A lot of the huge individual scores come in games when the team gets into a mode where they feel nothing else is working. But Naz is stepping up in a way that we don't see that often. It's a shame that the first 50 in UM women's history has to come in a game they lost.

I remember Diane Dietz's 45-point performance, which was the Big Ten conference game record for a long time. She was a deadly outside shooter before there was a 3-point arc (I was a student volunteer for the team and ran the shot clock for home games that year - it almost never went off). It was this crazy, back-and-forth game where both teams set scoring marks (the only time UM scored 100+ in a conference game before 1997). No one else has reached 40 in a game until this.

I don't think Naz can leave early to join the WNBA. Rules may change, and some top players have left school early now that first-rounders get a good salary. But the current rule is that a player has to be on pace to graduate with her senior class or turn 22 by the draft. Naz will be 21 in April.
