My Body Might Be Dying.... Slowly

Submitted by Darker Blue on August 21st, 2023 at 12:47 PM

Friends and Enemies Alike,

Darker Blue spent some time on his computer today when a sudden thought hit him in his dumb head. Darker Blue is dying. We are all dying

Everyday is one day closer to death.

That is why we must all come together

Right now

Over me.

Please forward all questions to your local politicians.

This will exacerbate your existential angst....Enjoy

“Time is relentless, marching forever onward, stripping away everything in its path, with
one exception: me. The people I care for die. The places I call home crumble. The passage of time demonstrates in horrifying detail the follies of immortality…it’s a personal hell from which there is no escape"

Things I have heard the last 30-40 years

"The NBA is dying"

"California is dying" - We just had a hurricane and earthquake yesterday so stay tuned

"CFB is dying"

Ill need to start investing in these dying things when I hear that word.

Time

Pink Floyd

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today

And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun
But it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you're older
Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation
Is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over
Thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again

I like to be here when I can

When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire

Far away, across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

They Might Be Giants

You're older than you've ever been

And now you're even older

And now you're even older

And now you're even older

You're older than you've ever been

And now you're even older

And now you're older still

Time is marching on

And time is still marching on

This day will soon be at an end

And now it's even sooner

And now it's even sooner

And now it's even sooner

This day will soon be at an event

And now it's even sooner

And now it's sooner still

You're older than you've ever been

And now you're even older

And now you're even older

And now you're even older

You're older than you've ever been

And now you're even older

And now you're older still

I went to the planetarium at the Franklin Institute in Philly with my kids.   They talked about how Mercury (Venus?) had no magnetic fields so the solar winds ravaged the planet and nothing can really live their.   Earth has magnetic fields that protect us from the solar winds and so life flourishes.  Mars used to have magnetic fields, and there may have been life, or at least water there, but the lava core cooled and the magetic fields went away and the planet is now desolate.  I don't think we have to worry about the earth's core cooling in the foreseeable future, but it is a poignant reminder of the ephemeral nature of life.  We'll have life on our planet for billions of years, but in the span of forever it isn't eally that long.

It is a miracle that we exist at all.  Every minute is a miracle.
