MSM selling Myth's....Steve Schilling

Submitted by Ziff72 on

Not sure how long someone can hang onto these myths but lets go over it again.  The text below was from McCoskey's article about Schilling and Boren talking.  If you can play the NFL will find you even if you play in a pussy spread, a juco, or a d3 school.  I'm pretty sure they can find S. Schilling playing for the winningest team in college football.

Sincerely,

M. Pouncey who went from pussy ball at Florida to starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the other hundreds of players who figured it out.

Schilling, who measured an NFL-worthy 6-foot-4 and 308 pounds, has two things against him: He has relatively short arms (he wouldn't say what his reach measured at) and he played in a spread offense for three years.

The latter will be harder for him to overcome.

They try to say the same about QB's too...Gabbert and Newton will be off the board in the first half of the draft....'spread wont get you drafted' seems to only be believed by college coaches who run a pro style offense to convince high schoolers to come their way...the media shouldn't buy it nor should high schoolers

I LOVE this time of year when total GUESSERS get paid gigantic money to speculate as to whether a guy can/will play in the NFL.  I especially love it when they break down things like freaking arm length.

"We've also gotten word that Steve Schilling cuts his toenails once a week."

"Ohhhh!  That's a really bad sign!  The last three offensive line busts were guys who also cut their toenails once a week."

"Yeah.  Spells bad things for the kid from Washington."

Mel Kiper and now Todd McShay have fooled so many into so much money by GUESSING.  Many of you have watched more games and know as much or more about college players than either of those two.

Tom Brady didn't have a strong enough arm, quick enough feet...  You already know.

Hilarious that some goof makes such outlandish remarks about Schilling or anyone else.

1. Arm length matters when you're a blocker. If you don't think it does, you've probably never played defensive end, tight end, or offensive tackle at, say, the high school varsity level. It's a component. If a guy has long arms in pass blocking, it's an advantage.

2. Tom Brady didn't have very good arm strength at that time. He DID improve his arm strength, according to him, which is a.) hard to do, and b.) rare.

Not only can the spread guys transition just fine to the more standard blocking schemes, but there are also NFL teams that run zone blocking schemes for which the spread guys are perfect.

The Schill:  "Boren, you fat bastard, thanks for leaving us holding the bag.  What are you going to say at the combine interview when they ask about you switching loyalties".

Traitorus Boren:  "I'll say it was about family values . . . and plowing! "

Players got taken in the first round last year who played in the spread. Bradford, Pouncy, tebow, dez bryant, gresham, trent williams, russel okong, javid best(?). 6 Players were drafted from pro style systems. Iupati and bulaga where solid, mathews fumbled, spiller was hurt, thomas was ineffective. I don't no about anthony davis. Spread guys had much better seasons.

Steve Schilling will go down as one of my favorite Michigan players.  He came to A2 with all of the right tools and for all of the right reasons (tradition, education....).  He bought into Michigan but didn't really get the experience he expected (Big Ten titles, wins over OSU...) but he never complained.  He just worked hard and did what was asked of him.

I hope that he enjoyed his Michigan experience and doesn't feel "cheated" that the didn't get what so many similar offensive linemen before him got.  When Michigan beats the Buckeyes (and it will happen again), I hope that Schilling gets to enjoy that moment like he was actually playing in the game.

Schilling didn't go out of his way to debunk the myth. If he did, they left those quotes out.  He even fell back on how fortunate he was to have had a year with Lloyd Carr's scheme.

Maybe everyone who is bent about it should be blaming him.
