Moderator Action Sticky 2014

Submitted by Seth on

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third.

Warning, this post is extremely meta and many won't care. Fine, no need to read.

Normally every mod action on an OP ends with signed work somewhere. Whether that's here, or ending an OP with Mod edit: blah blah blah JGB. or posting a comment to the same effect. With the end of OT season we'll be removing (or maybe adding, but mostly removing) OT tags from posts that aren't off topic and frankly I don't think it's worth it to clutter posts or comments with a note saying why.

If anything else is changed there will be a note. If this happens to your post please don't take offense. If you have a question about it go ahead and ask here in the mod sticky.

Bad title, no link. Quote seemed like click bait but if the article is pretty good someone else can post it with a better OP.

OP, enjoy your work vacation. No need to stress about a throwaway quote in a season preview for a not Michigan team.

Garrett Taylor Tears ACL

This is a duplicate thread, the original now relagated to the second page but still only about 18 hours old. All the same, wishing Taylor a speedy recovery.

When you're moderating would it be a ton of extra work when you see a thread that's particularly good (good discussion, good photoshops, important news, special analysis) etc. to put an asterisk at the end of the title, and maybe if it's getting pushed down change the posting time so it bumps back up?

The board in-season gets so crowded that I thought the good stuff (e.g. EGD's annual preview) could use some extra glitter. But since you guys would have to be doing it, I wanted to gauge whether that's feasible/worth your time.

OT-Chase clears up Sopranos ending (spoiler)

...as well as...

OT - States Ranked by Beer - Michigan ranked #4

I really shouldn't have left the beer one, but admittedly I was amused - I was also trying to get crews out the door, so there wasn't much time left for actual considered modding. We'll remove both in keeping with the fact that OT Season really is, in fact, over.

And as you guys also can attest to, it's not good form to copy and paste someone's entire piece onto the board, link or no link.

I feel this OP post should be edited to exclude the entire content from the Maize n Brew author's post, as should this comment that does the same.

Don't feel people should get in trouble, it's just poor form to do that.

Meta: page down feature for MGoBoard finally working again NO IT ISN'T!!!

To StephenRKass' point, I also experienced the page down feature working for a bit, but it has only been sporadic for me after that. I know relative success using it, for me anyway, has been correlated somewhat to board traffic. Either way, it doesn't seem like we're quite there yet sadly.

As I mentioned in the now-deleted thread, it seems to work well for me when using Chrome while I'm logged in to the Board.  It does NOT work for me on Chrome when I'm not logged in.

So, there's something happening here.  But what it is ain't exactly clear. . . . Hope it gets resolved.

Hello: Darian Roseboro

It was originally titled something else and changed after the announcement, but also after the dedicated Hello post had been created. As there was already a thread created for announcement / speculation, we'll run with the dedicated thread though it was the second one created. No offense to 1484, it was a strange situation boardwise.

Elliot Mealer does the most amazing Hoke impression

This one made it to the board sometime yesterday - if you didn't see it though, do so. It is very funny, I thought, and eerily dead on.

Funchess for Heisman 2014

Somewhere in mid-thread, the OP requested its removal, and if I might inject my own opinion, we might want to hold back just a little bit on this sort of talk at the moment. The season is young yet, and while I also see Funchess as in a good position to have a nice year, we do a nice little test coming up next week.

Is the kicking game an area of concern?

I know that I said that we can keep threads that address specific points, but I don't know that there is nearly enough data on the kicking game yet, and I don't know that this is going to add a lot more than what was already discussed in threads.

Awesome Charles Woodson Nissan Heisman House commercials (new)

These made it to the board a few days back. I know it is a pain, but remember to open new tabs when searching the first few pages of threads - generally, something like this will make it to the board rather quickly.

...in the following thread:

META - "Mod Action Sticky" not sticky

...and the thread has been removed at the request of its creator. For the board's general information, the link to the sticky within the menus on the site's top bar is current. If you check it on occasion, I recommend keeping a shortcut to it as well if you're looking to see what has been posted and removed.

OT: NFL Open Thread (GB vs. SEA)

Granted, the other thread is not specifically dedicated to the Green Bay-Seattle game, but there is some discussion of it going already in the previously created thread.

As I was without power last night (and I have been since Friday night), I listened (unfortunately) on a radio feed, and have spent the last hour at work here reading thread as I am able, we're going to do some cleanup here. Not every one of these was offensive or redundant per se, but some are just victims of cleanup for more direct discussions. The following will go in the first round of cuts:

Look on the bright side ......

B1G Black Saturday fallout at Ohio State

Yeah, I am going to just jump in and say that gratuitous insults thrown at us by Ohio State writers will probably generate very limited interest on the board, especially right now.

As much as I love the Big Lebowski, there's a gif in the PSU thread that should probably be taken down for the unpleasant imagery it ensues considering the subject mattter.

Hypothetical John Harbaugh Availability/Question

I do not foresee this one going particularly well, and while a few threads here and there on position discussions have slid (likeOL discussions), it seems these coaching hypothetical threads generally are non-starters.

LSAClassOf2000

Thoughts on Butch Jones?

The OP said that it could be deleted, and in reality it probably should be but only because these threads are almost invariably inflammatory (well, the comments are) even if that isn't the stated intent of the OP, especially as we're not actively looking for a coach.

Hypothetical Coaching Staff in-Waiting

This thread, while I see the humor in it, probably is not going to get the responses that the OP was hoping for.

Post ND lineup changes.

It was probably not a good idea to leave it up as long as I did, and yes, it has descended into the normal panic and groping for solutions not supported by any real evidence. Time for it to go.

Grantland article on Hoke/mediocrity

Beat by a single thread, and yet, this one had more discussion, though much of it was how this was a repeat thread. Few things are more MGoBlog.

LSAClassOf2000

September 13th, 2014 at 10:12 PM ^

To Raoul's post above, Mgo-Bo is indeed MGoGone now. When one's hot take involves calling someone a "cocksucker" and telling someone to "fuck off", yeah, that would be the sort of poster we could do without.

Calling out fans for leaving early

That thread probably will not lead to much in the way of constructive discussion, so it will be pulled before the OP gets too much grief for it.

There's something so magnificent about an ad for a service that provides students with "plagiarism-free" papers they can submit as their own work showing up on the Ace Williams Is In High School thread that I think you should leave this last one up.

OT: iPhone owners do not read. But I have a One+ Invite extra. Anyone? :edited

If I read this correctly, the offer has already been taken by someone, so this thread can probably go. If I misread that, I can always put it back up until it is gone, but it wouldn't be able to stay regardless.

In case we start getting news I think we should keep the five or so current fire people threads.

Who knows, maybe even some good news. Anyone got anything on basketball? Maybe hockey? Gotta be something on softball at least...
