Mitch McGary waived by Thunder

Submitted by UMgradMSUdad on

I hope McGary is able to get himself over the injuries and self-inflicted wounds and get back on track on the basketball court somewhere. It sounds like he's looking at playing in either China or Europe.

I wish he would have told the staff that he would not be able to pass a drug test.   If the team administers a test and he fails, it is a 3 game suspension.

The NCAA rule on this is beyond stupid, but is pretty damn stupid to fail a NCAA administered drug test.

It is always a rush to get to the NBA and make money.  But now he can't even make it through one contract.

It would have been really nice to have a year or two more of him.  Because playing overseas was always an option in the backpocket.

It is pretty bad when you get to the point where you know you are going to be drug tested even more and still fail it.

He is not the only guy in the NBA or sports that does this in his free time.  But a lot of these guys are able to make it without constantly being suspended for it.

Yeah I can't say I know anything either on that, but taking the thing that is supposedly helping relieve pain is the same thing that prevents him from even being eligible to play.

Seems like just a revolving door - be hurt, use the substance to help pain, feel better?, take drug test, fail drug test (and get tested more because of history of failed tests, get injured, use, feel better?, fail drug test....

I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been really any support from athletes for medical marijuana use. With it already being legal medically in half the US (and on the ballot for multiple states this year) you'd think they'd be behind that. Professional athletes have been spotted in dispensaries numerous times..and I don't think they were there just to look around

HBO Real Sports had an excellent piece on NFL players who use pot as an alternative to the highly addictive opiate-based painkillers. The representative of the NFL who they interviewed was a mindless stooge. He had no good answer for why the league aggressively cracks down on pot, because none exists. Ultimately, I think the leagues (particularly the NFL) have anti-marijuana motives due to their relationships with the beer companies.

Did a giant marijuana plant knock on your door and kill your family? Weed is going to be for sale in gas stations next to cigarettes within 10 years max. Take a chill.

Haha wow. Just a very inaccurate statement. You do realize that the multitude of pain meds medically administered don't HEAL a person, either, yes? Then again, you're using the word "dope" so...

Haven't been keeping up with the players, but I saw Stauskas made the 76ers roster.

What's the status with all those guys from the run to the Championship game?

It seems as though Beilein is good at developing basketball players to succeed at the college level but it's just not transitioning to the NBA. I know it's incredibly hard to make the starting lineup of an NBA team, but a coach making top 5 money should be able to regularly produce some starters. I support coach and the team, but it just feels like they're not taking that next step as a program and never will. So what coach is out there that they could bring it who could recruit, develop, and win at the level we're willing to pay?

Wish the Pistons had room on the roster for him, I think he would make a great SVG big man. Other than that, yeah, I hope he lands on his feet somewhere. As a former avid marijuana smoker myself I can say that even though it may not be "addictive" in the traditional sense, it is still a tough habit to kick.

Sheesh. For as many stars as we had on that Final Four team, not one of them has amounted to much in the NBA.

Here's to LeVert bucking that trend, but man oh man those guys have underacheived in the league.

GRIII as was often predicted looks to be doing the best right now.  I'm actually surprised Stauskas is still around, hes been pretty underwhelming.  Mitch looked like the best of them all in the few NBA and D-league games he played in but obviously has other issues keeping him off the court :(.
