Michigan Player participation last night
There is scattered discussion if player participation in various snow flakes thread. Hoping to consolidate that.
Where was Solomon?
Seemed like the first half was very heavy, if not exclusively Higdon at rb. Where was Evans?
Lots of Marshall at Dt at beginning, didn't see too much of him later.
Gill appeared to start at lb, but then Ross got most of the run. Gill came back in for Bush.
D McCaffrey as back up (soneone said Peters got hurt last week) so that may not be the long term order.
Think you saw Hutchinson and they announced Bell any other freshman that only have 3 more games to participate before burning their redshirt?

Myles Sims showing up in the box score but was that Uche out there? Both (at different times)?
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
I believe the #6 that played was Uche. The fact Sims also wears 6 basically means they've already decided to RS him, which with the new 4-gm rule would be weird I think.
Any insider insights?

Someone said Solomon was in on the second series. I missed him I dont think he recorded any stats.
Team really missed Hurst on D. Really missed Cole on O.

Solomon did not appear to play many snaps. One he did was a Wimbush scramble for a 1st where Solomon was literally just stood up by a single hand to his chest. I'm a wee bit worried about his effort!
Unless something was happening on that play I couldn't see? NBC sucks! Glad we won't be on there again for AWHILE!

I saw Dwumfor out there, but the Dwumfor hype was absent (from what I could tell). I don't think Wimbush could have kept stepping up in the pocket (and occasionally running after stepping up) while Gary/Winovich circled behind him if we had anyone close to a Hurst/Glasgow type.

What a nice, deep, circular pocket the DLine creates with over-pursuing DEs and DTs that were stone walled at the LOS...might as well move Gary inside from time to time and let Paye or Uche attack/contain from the outside.
Solomon was in there...didn’t look like for long. Mone got a ton of snaps as well.
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:18 PM ^
Maybe if Mattison/Brown line Gary and Winovich up side by side they’ll quit running into each other at Mach 8 speed 4 yards behind the QB...
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing - they need to find a way to get pressure up the middle because the weak spot of this D is in the middle of the field. I don't see why Mone should even be out there unless we are up against a power running team but he got a lot of snaps.
They seem to be using Bush on the TE so he was being pulled out and not applying pressure like last year. We need his speed on blitzes.
If you watch the game again really there was a lot there that ND didn't take advantage of because their QB is an average passer and not that fast of a runner. OSU would have put 50+ on us.

Obviously all the Dwumfor hype came from him dominating the shitty line in practice. In fact all the d-line hype coming from practice is because the line sucks.
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^
DT hype maybe - Gary & Winovich are proven. Against high competition.
That being said, Gary was pretty quiet last night! I think ND really game planned pretty well. I had just commented that Bush's name hadn't been called the whole night when he made a big play. In the 3rd Q. And got hurt. So... not our night!

The lack of Evans really got to me after a while. I did not understand that at all.
Considering the circumstances late, I kind of liked what I was seeing from McCaffrey.
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
I was screaming for Evans all night. He had ONE touch before there were 5 minutes left in the game!
Actually, pretty terrible game plan, exacerbated by horrendous blocking.
Yes, DMac looked GOOD! I'd hazard to say "Better" in fact!
Are comments REALLY turned off for the game story? Is that the "new normal'?

I was at the game, here are my observations:
- Solomon played in the DT rotation. Didn't do much like the rest of them, but played.
- Marshall went to the locker room limping at some point and that's why you didn't see him later.
- I never saw Bell, but it is possible he was out there on ST or something
- Gill, Bush, and Uche got a fair amount of PT, Furbush did not. His only memorable play was getting beat on the pass where Metellus was ejected.
- I parked next to the Spanellis family and they told us "you'll definitely see him out there for some plays". I was expecting him as a jumbo TE, but he only played the one snap when Ruiz lost his helmet.
- Peters tweaked his knee in practice, but he was out there dressed and warming up.

Where was Ben Mason?
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
I was thinking the same thing. I don’t remember seeing a FB
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
He was out there a couple of times...in the I-formation, iirc. Saw him at least once during D-Caff’s stint.
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:52 PM ^
Mason was lead blocker on 1st & goal that got down to the 2. Then just when I called "Mason's getting the ball here" out he went & they ran play action instead.
Harbaugh has been kidnapped by aliens & replaced with a docile pod-person!
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
Devin Gill had a bad first drive and was replaced by Ross on the second ND drive.
September 2nd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
The lack of pt and touches for Evans has always frustrated me. I think Evans is a special talent especially in space. Something else that frustrates me is that we don’t run slot fades to Gentry or Collins which should be an advantage for us.
Yes Gil seems to always make plays when he is in but lost a ton of snaps to Ross.
September 2nd, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
For being a mountain of a man Gentry still plays the ball soft when it's in the air. They should throw him jump balls every practice where he is forced to out muscle guys to get the ball.
September 2nd, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Our line left Patterson and other guys out to dry. I very rarely saw them coming to him and picking him up after they let him get planted. A sign of a cohesive team and line are those lineman that to pickup and rally their qb

• Eleven Wolverines saw their first career action in tonight's game against the Irish: Ronnie Bell, Chuck Filiaga, Aidan Hutchinson, Oliver Martin, Dylan McCaffrey, Jake McCurry, Jake Moody, Drew Singleton, Andrew Stueber, Jacob West and Brendan White.

Freshman will have almost no impact this season which is a damn shame. Our recruiting has been awful since 2017
