Which means they haven't "scouted" him at all. The jury is out until the kid comes and shows that he can be a force at safety. Hopefully he will do just that and be a reliable safety that knows how to tackle and take angles with out the help of a protractor (not that that even helps the current safeties). He be "carvin" up the offense!

Complete speculation on my point but we have a lot of defensive players on the board still so I'm kind of surprised that we'd take a chance on this kid at this point in the process.

Grimes is a corner, so it doesn't affect him at all. Knight is a strong safety type (and Johnson is probably a weak safety), so it probably doesn't affect him, either. Christian wants to play corner and if he did switch to safety, it would probably be strong safety. So in other words, it doesn't affect those three at all, really.

We'll probably take an ILB. I don't think we need a defensive lineman, especially if Paskorz and Wilkins move to DE (which they should, in my opinion), but Clarence Murphy might come in a package with Grimes. We still need two corners and one or two offensive linemen. We're also recruiting Alex Smith at tight end.

After my quick look over the current commits, it isn't an amazing class by any stretch, but it's still solid. I'd say 2-3 DBs with an LB and either an OL or a DL. I'd prefer OL because we have some playmakers on the DL and we could use some depth at OL for the future. I'm really hoping for a lockdown type corner.

Not worthy of its own thread, but FWIW, Kenny Stills just said Michigan is getting a visit (in place of Penn State). He's a 4 star WR. Really low chance at getting him though. It's on ESPN's recruiting page.

So, he's a sleeper? Does that mean he's a middling three-star sort like Emilien was, or is he some diamond in the rough sort? It's hard to be *too* excited until we know who the guy is (his other offers on Scout, FWIW: Minnesota, Utah, ULM, some other small schools). Obviously it's great that we found someone, though, even if he does end up a 3-star sort.

I've been following recruiting for a long time. I think that it was a torn acl/mcl or something along those lines and he was out for all of or most of his senior year. And their ratings are not even comparable. You are comparing apples and aardvarks.

I misunderstood you. I edited my post because I thought you were talking about Carvin, not Vlad, when you talked about the senior year injury - I follow recruiting a decent amount too, so I kind of remembered that (about Vlad).

Vlad actually visited Ohio State after committing to Michigan and OSU's recruiting sites were making noise about pulling him away. Vlad said no, on the basis that Michigan continued to go after him when the other interested schools backed off.
