Michigan Hockey = Embarrassment Of Riches
October 7th, 2021 at 6:50 AM ^
Yup.
October 7th, 2021 at 6:51 AM ^
Football is narrowly squeaking out victories, and by a pure stroke of luck the basketball team is picked first in the league.
Enjoy it Michigan fans, if you dare.

It's 1997 all over again!!!
October 7th, 2021 at 7:55 AM ^
It was the best Jerry, the best!
October 7th, 2021 at 8:48 AM ^
Well, 4 of our 5 wins have been by 21+ so idk about the narrowly squeaking out victories part.

Or that it is luck that Juwan has developed a team that starts the season ranked 1st in the B1G.
October 7th, 2021 at 9:13 AM ^
Defending B1G Champions with 3 starting caliber players returning and the number 1 freshman class in the country.
Yup, pure stroke of luck.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:28 AM ^
Unfortunately Memphis overtook us with the re-classification Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates.

I feel no embarrassment for these riches
only hope

Is this what being a billionaire feels like?
October 7th, 2021 at 7:29 AM ^
God I hope not.
I imagine being a billionaire involves feeling like Urban Meyer
Which is gross
October 7th, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
So being a billionaire involves feeling like you have to cover-up crimes for your subordinates, cheat on your wife, fake medical conditions, and ditch your grandchildren to have some young woman grind on your lifeless crotch? Maybe all that stuff about Bill Gates is actually true.....
/s maybe?

>So being a billionaire involves feeling like you have to cover-up crimes for your subordinates, cheat on your wife, fake medical conditions,
A billionaire’s conscience would consider itself lucky if that were the only list of moral failings it had to deal with. And Urban is probably far more accomplished and talented than most failson billionaires.
October 7th, 2021 at 9:28 AM ^
Urban is not where near a billionaire. I doubt he is close to 100mm
October 9th, 2021 at 4:38 PM ^
Net worth $35mil
October 7th, 2021 at 8:26 AM ^
FWIW, I’m not embarrassed.
October 7th, 2021 at 8:27 AM ^
I feel dirty after clicking an MLive link...
But I'm not embarrassed to be cleansed by the richness of the hockey team!
October 7th, 2021 at 8:29 AM ^
Exciting time for Michigan sports - hockey, basketball, football, softball, baseball, others...
Very solid.
October 7th, 2021 at 9:01 AM ^
now if we could just get our game of RISK back on track
October 7th, 2021 at 9:31 AM ^
How is the best college hockey roster ever assembled ranked #3 and not #1 preseason? Who cares about preseason rankings and all, I get that. But it doesn't make sense so I need to call it out.
October 7th, 2021 at 9:38 AM ^
They are very young. A couple of those top teams have men who are 25 years old. Mel said one of those teams' average age is older than one of the NHL team's average age ( I forget the teams he named but you get the point). By the season's end, we should be just fine and the goal is a NC....Minnesota is still very talented too.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:47 AM ^
Young, talented teams don't always pan out. Sometime the overagers win out against the skilled 17-19 year olds. It happens. Now this is the most talented young team ever assembled in D1 hockey so I wouldn't be surprised if we're #1 soon, but I don't blame voters for being cautious. Plus college hockey really tends to vote based on last year until proven otherwise
October 7th, 2021 at 9:31 AM ^
There were some tickets left for Friday's game vs Lake State at 7:30pm.
Also, #2 UM Field Hockey plays #6 Northwestern at 6 PM Friday. Admission is free at Okker.
Two NC contenders.
For those asking about hockey rankings:
October 7th, 2021 at 9:41 AM ^
“Its no surprise Michigan Is ranked #3 this year”
It surprises the hell out of me. Why would all this talent not be ranked #1?
They talked about lack of tournament experience. Goalie? #1 and #2 loaded as well?
I don’t follow college hockey as closely but dang it seems like a team with this much top end NHL talent, and returning 9 of 10 top scorers, would be ranked #1.
October 7th, 2021 at 10:11 AM ^
If amount of NHL talent determined collegiate hockey outcomes, Michigan would have a lot more trophies to its name.
October 7th, 2021 at 11:53 AM ^
Having the most NHL draft talent has poor correlation to actually winning the thing. If it did, Minnesota and North Dakota would have a lot more title to their name. Older teams tend to fare well vs the young, talented teams so it's not a given that Michigan is #1
October 7th, 2021 at 10:12 AM ^
Never be embarrassed by your riches..... to the victor go the spoils!
October 7th, 2021 at 11:54 AM ^
In a program full of incredible hockey teams, this year's Michigan really has a shot at being Michigan's best ever. I can't wait for this season
October 7th, 2021 at 8:13 PM ^
the only bad thing about the hockey team being great is that i have to start paying for btn plus again
October 8th, 2021 at 2:30 AM ^
BTN+ Is fucking insulting. They don’t even attempt an honest production. And we give them our money anyway…
